Trout, a lot of guys will tell you that there are no best baits for anything. Learn this! Repeat it to yourself 3 times. After that ask what is a good bait to use and explain the conditions.

Sort of-there isn't a best overall bait that will work all the time, but

gets specific, and there are certain lures that will work better than others under those conditions.

Trout, I would get some soft plastic jerkbaits like a Zoom Super Fluke or a Tiki Stick. Â*Most ponds now have some vegetation in them, and fishing these baits in and around that cover can be deadly. Â*I would also try a spinnerbait and a lipless crankbait like a Rat-L-Trap. Â*And if you are fishing in the evening or early morning a topwater like a Heddon Tiny Torpedo or a Rebel Pop-R can make for some great topwater action.

In my personal experience, bass in small ponds can be caught on the same variety of baits that produce in larger bodies of water.

Do you have reason to believe that there are bass right there where you're fishing and that the sunnies are just beating the bass to the bait?

If yes, I'd throw Texas-rigged soft plastics. Sunnies typically nip at the tails, but rarely get hooked, so I'd just ignore the sunfish taps.

best bait.................that would be live bait, preferably shiners or minnows. Â*

as far as artificial goes, like everbody already said, there ain't none. But yeah, shiners and minnows are hands down the best bass bait.

TROUT,

Go to the "Articles" section of this site and read for yourself. There are great articles on fishing farm ponds, fishing various baits, what to do when the fishing gets tough, go-to baits, etc. I think you could learn a lot by reading from that section.
