Rods Again
>Sorry to bring this up again but I am going to buy a 6' 6" Med./Heavy spinning rod. The one I have really looked at is the Kistler Helium LTA, does anyone have one if so I would like to know how you like it. I also looked at G Loomis IMX if you have one let me know how you like it. Anyone else have another kind of rod that they like. I am wanting the best quality made.

Re: Rods Again
I'm Partial to ST Croix, however I have never used a Helium or a G-Loomis. So I can't say anything about them other than they usually get good reviews. I do have 3 of the ST Croix's, 2 in 6'6"MH and 1 7''H. I use them constantly, and have no complaints.

Re: Rods Again
I remember after I won 250 bucks at a casino in biloxi I was looking for a way to blow it and I was just an eyelash away from getting a Kistler Helium. It is incredibly light and sensitive, I just figured that the risk of breaking it was too real considering how I treat my tackle...but I think they are great rods for what its worth.

Re: Rods Again
I have fished a freinds Kistler flipping stick several times and past up the chance to buy it when He sold it in November.I still liked my Castaway Bud Pruitt sticks better, but the Kistler was a very nice rod.He sold it to another freind for $100.00 so he could buy another Falcon Low Rider flipping stick. We may be wrong and we all have our favorites that may not be right for someone elses liking, but don't you find it interesting that you can buy 2 of the Castaways or the Falcons for the same money as one Kistler? No one can tell you what is right for you, you have to find it out on your own. Good Luck. P N J

Re: Rods Again
I own a Kistler Graphite plus 1 piece flipping stick and it is a VERY nice rod for the money. It is not much heavier than the heilum and about $100.00 less. I liken the comparison to a GLX vs IMX. The GLX IS lighter but not that much. Not $100.00 worth, imho .
I suppose if I were going to choose between the Helium and the IMX, the Kistler would win my vote. I like the reel seat w/ no foregrip so I can put my forefinger directly on the blank. There probably isn't much noticable difference in weight and sensitivity between the two, as between the Helium and the Graphite plus. Kistler totally pushes the Heliums like crazy but I don't notice that much of a difference between the two (Kistlers that is). As I previously said, for the price difference. If it were me , I would get a graphite plus knowing that I would have one of the lighter, more sensitive rods out there and take the rest of the money and buy a nice reel to go on it. Just my opinion... |

Re: Rods Again
I love my falcons... excellent quality and performance. check them out on the web. www.falconrods.com Expert series is just about perfect...but i settle for lowriders and Cara series... although my favorite rod is the originol series (cheapest $80), FC-4-166, its mainly for crankbaiting, slower action, but I LOVE IT...

Re: Rods Again
BPW-the model you are looking at, the He66MHS is a great rod. I have several and you can use it for a wide range of baits. I've used other rods for 20+ years, these Helium LTA's are the best I've ever used.

Re: Rods Again
Sorry, I am sure they are good rods, but I would rather buy two Falcons for the same amount of money. I am about Falcon the way PNJ is about Castaway Bud Pruitt rods. Love em.

Re: Rods Again
Falcon, St. Croix, G-Loomis, Kistler, are all great rods, if you want to spend the money. I believe you get what you pay for, in most circumstances. G-Loomis rods are good, but not good enough for them to charge that much for a damn rod. They are absolutely no better than St. Croix, or Falcon, or many others. In fact, I have had to many problems with them breaking for no reason. Kistler rods are very light, and sensitive, but with those qualities, you give up durability. Also, the Kistler rods just plain look cheap. You would think for the money they charge, they could at least have double wrapped line guides. I personally think the best high quality rods on the market for the money are the falcon, St. Croix, All-Star, and shimano rods. All of these rods are light, very sensitive, moderatley priced, and have very good warranties. Just my opinion though. Good fishing.

Re: Rods Again
BassBoss,There is nothing wrong with Falcons, I was going to buy the Low Rider 5 tip rating series flipping stick ,then I bought a used Castaway Bud Pruitt flipping stick from the guy who went to Kistler, then back to Falcons again. I have since then bought 3 new Castaway Bud Pruitt flipping sticks. I have had alot of flipping sticks and these are the perfect jig stix for me, but look through the posts and everyone has their own opinions and brands of rods. ;D P N J
