swim baits or grubs
well heres my bait monkey question for the day..
tell me about swim baits..are they woth the price..fish catches/durability/ vs the inexpensive rubber grubs?? do ya have your favorate swim bait? web sites and or brands would be appreciated If you had one pole left in the boat what would you do throw a swim bait on or a grub.. if you had to give them a 1-10 on the gota have scale what would you give-em?? can you get them with a weed guard Thanks I have never fished with them yet. Â*they seem to be getting pretty popular around here just trying to get up with the times a little more and learn more beside T or C rigs lures.. Thanks DAN 2canbass |

Re: swim baits or grubs
Storm "wild eye swim bait"
3" and 4" shad color. Yes I would have one on but thats also with considerations of the season. |

Re: swim baits or grubs
either storm or calcutta swim bait work real well but both suck in timber-or even near sticks- were they really shine is rip rap or near deep docks.

Re: swim baits or grubs
I fish with the Castaic swimbait. I believe they make their baits from 6 inches to 12 inches. I prefer the 9 inch bait and it weighs about 2.5oz. Now that's a swimbait. Not these 3 or 4 inch things you call swimbaits. For big fish, big baits. Several of the lakes I fish out here have planter trout for the trout fishermen. When the D.F.G. show up with that truck, it's like ringing the dinner bell for those large ladies.

Hey Zooker-you say they suck in timber-is that because they get hung up real easy? If so I agree 100%. By buddy abd I call it a snag-o-lure. They catch fish but hang up at the drop of a hat.

Why not trying to replace the hook with a jig head hook with the weedguard? Don't know if it would help on a fast moving bait to much, but it may? Lizards |

Re: swim baits or grubs
Here's a weedless Panther Martin http://image.basspro.com/images/images2/82500/82880.jpg . There's a Bill Dance weedless in the BPS catalog but I didn't find it on their site. The latter is expensive and I think I might try a 4" Sassy Shad on a weedless jighead to simulate a swimbait.
