Spinning Reel Repair
All right...I'll admit it, spinning reels aren't my thing. But sometimes conditions call for a lighter approach.
I put my reels through a lot, and I may have broke my only spinning reel. It's a cheap little Quantam, but had worked well for me on Zoom Trick worms, Super Flukes, etc... Now, I can't seem to get the bail to stay tripped. It still casts great, but, during a fight, the bail pulls up. I have only lost one fish, but since I am only a weekend warrior, each fish counts. I've taken it apart, the magnets are still in their place, they still hold, I just can't keep the bail from popping up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
Sounds like your bail spring is broke, Not sure if you want to try and fix it, I would just go buy another

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
Start with a list of things like a snake, lizard, spider, kayaker, hippies in a canoe and throw it at whichever one happens to show up first. ;D P N J

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
Thanks guys, that's what I figured.
Dang!! Now I have to go to basspro.com and get me one and maybe some more stuff. Damn monkey. And I think I shall take a shot at these damn intertubers at the back of the speed boats. They sling them in as close to my boat as I feel comfortable. You know, one good crankbait, set hard, at 30 m.p.h. would do a great bit of damage. |

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
Well you said cheap, meaning I'm guessing inexspensive. It may be worth a email or a call to quantum to see if they have a local warranty center. They may be able to fix it for not much $15 or so. I will say like most of the rest of the folks, if it's inexspensive I usually just get a new one.

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
I thought quantum reels had the magnets with a lifetime warantee. Call and find out. It might just apply to the more expensive reels though.

Re: Spinning Reel Repair
I dont play reel repair games except on my curados, I take them to shimano every year for a tune up. If they dont work they go in the trash unless shimano can fix them then. I have a bucket of reels in the garage that dont work right thinking maybe i'll need the parts someday. But i never look for them i just junk the old reel and buzz the tackle monkey and off i go. By the way I havent replcaced a curado in 5 years and i have 8 of them. Scott R
