Re: murky lakes
When visibility is low you need to concentrate on the senses other than sight, which means noise/vibration. Â*Lipless crankbaits, rattling baits, big bulky jigs that move a lot of water and spinnerbaits with a single big Colorado blade are theÂ*types of baits I use. Â*A trap or spinnerbait is what I reach for the most.
If it is a sunny day I use colors like firetiger, and if cloudy darker, more subdues colors. |

Re: murky lakes
for murky or stained water go with dark colored lures and lotes of vibration and smell.

Re: murky lakes
The lakes and ponds that I fish are pretty clear, but I have spent a huge amount of time fishing the Erie Canal, which at its clearest is murky green with a maximum visibility of 12-18". The areas I fish have a mixture of bass (mostly smallies), walleye and pike.
I use crankbaits 90% of the time and grubs on jigheads the rest of the time. It may be that bright or dark baits with rattles are your best bet, but it has always amused me that the fish here don't know the rules. They take all colors, dull or bright, and one of my most productive lures has been Shad Raps, a non-rattling bait with a tight wiggle. But I would follow earlier advice and at least start with baits that vibrate or make noise, but don't be surprised if you catch fish on quiet baits as well. |
