Default flippin

well i have a abu garcia ambasseder 6500 and i need to know what kind of line i should put on it for flippin?

i know everone likes power pro but i can never find it at gander mountian or galyans.

so besides power pro what should i use.

by the way if this matters the lake i normally fish in is kind of murky

thanks

I'd go with some kind of braid (only used power pro though...), if not try Trilene big game.

Spiderwire or Stren Super Braid will do the job, too. Haven't tried the Stren braid yet but used spiderwire for several years-it is a good line.

I'm not saying Stren Superbraid wouldn't work, but it really casts extremely poorly on light baits. I've used if for about 3 months. It's strong, but it's casting ability turned me off. There are lots of braids, or of course FIRELINE, is my favorite.

You have to put a lot of tension on the line when spooling a reel with stren superbraid, it does have a tendency to dig into itself if its wound too loose. I still use it for flipping, it is very strong and sensitive. Been meaning to give powerpro a try though.

You may wish to try Stren Fluorcarbon. I normally use 20 but your conditions may vary. Never had a break off.
Abrasion resistance is good, with little stretch.

give cajun line a try. It's not all that expensive, and it might as well be braid, very strong and abrasion resistant.I use 14 lb. for flipping and have had good luck, even around trees.good luck,Pete

over the last few years ive tried line after line after line
ive settled on spider wire xxx mono for most aplications 20 lb for flippin 17 for worm rod 15 for spinners and cranks and 12 on my saltwater outfit that i use for workin tikki sticks dead stickin and the jerk baitin it
i dont hold to that berkly braid frays up to much on my bait caster that 12lb line i got on medium action spinnin allstar witha shimano sahara aind ittle hall in redfish 25lb red fish easy so its goto have strength and very lil stretch it also has a small diamiter but is still very abrasian resistant its my choice for every thing but perch i use 15 lb big game for that

Bendersbe,Gander Mountain here in NY sells Tuf- Line XP Braided line.In my opinion it is the best braid line, I have found so far.Its smoother than power pro and seems to hold up very well so far. I used 50 lb power pro but I now use 30 lb Tuf - Line XP braid.I hope this helps ,P N J

(spiderwire stealth sucks!) place a order from BPS online, get the power pro. Im a mono guy myself wasted hundreds a dollars on crap line, powerpro is the only braid that I like.

get your self the stren. I use the superbraid on all my poles, but i need more, because i unspooled all my reels after fishing for a year staright on it. After a couple times out fishing, it gets easier to cast light lures. Right now i cant buy the line, because im focusing on lures, so the 14 lb trilene is currently on my reel

I used and liked Fireline before I listened to everybody here and got the PowerPro. The Fireline starts out pretty stiff, but loosens up pretty quickly. You won't be able to cut it with clippers, you will need some good scissors.

I would go to and order from Bass Pro Shops online to get the PowerPro now, though.

Either Wal-Mart or Meijer carries Power Pro. Can't remember which store I saw it in. Heck maybe both of them carry it. Of course it will be in limited test. I believe all they carry is 20 and 30 lb. test. So if you want it in any other test order it from BPS.

Hard Q. I just bought some POWER PRO but here's whats next on my list

I use SPIDER WIRE ''Stealth'',and ''Original Braid'' in 17/20/30, IF YOU HAVE A TRUE FLIPP'N STICK USE 50/65/80.With a MEDIUM or med.heavy or less use 17/20/30.If you don't listen to me you will end up buy'in a new rod for every fish you catch!!!!Use a pallamar or a double pallamar knot.If you dont your line will always slipp!!! Hopefully that will help!!!

I like to flip alot and have never heard of guys using 50 lb. test, is it rated 50lb with a smaller diameter that would be close to a 20 lb size? The reason I ask I can't imagine using small jigs (1/4 hair jig) for example with such a heavy line as 50, when fishing falldowns or rip rap. I have always found the more you check your line for frays, you can find the nicks and retie, and get away with 17/20 lb test on just about any brand. I never have like the braided lines because often in my hard hook setting I have broken rod tips, eyelets or parts of the reel. I am sure part of the appeal of those heavy lines are the confidence boost the angler gets from all the advertising about its strength......IMO

JB-he's talking braid. Â*I use 50 lb PowerPro braid on my worm, jig, and flippin' rods. Â*It has the same diameter as 12 lb mono. Â*If you like flipping small stuff the 20 lb test braid has the diameter of 6 lb mono-I think-might be 8. Last year I flipped a jig-n-pig into a flooded treetop and caught a 20 lb flathead. Never would have gotten it out with mono. Barely got it out with braid ;D.
