Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
Anybody have any experience with them? It would seem they would do great for bank bound fisherman or small ponds and such. Wrist Watch depth finder, I never thought I would see the day,lol :P I do alot of bank fishing and could see this as a useful tool if it works as it says it does.

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
I purchased one awhile back and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. It shows bottom contour like you want and does show fish. I bought it because I fish out of a float tube and since I picked up a Bottom

I got one for my father a while back. He fishes a lot of small stock tanks with some fishing club he belongs to that gives them access to a lot of land owner's property. He loves the thing. He says he usually makes 10-20 casts with it when he gets to a tank for the first time to get the layout, and them he starts fishing. If you are considering one, he recommends them.

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
I went out and picked one up last night. Dick's Sporting Goods has them on sale for 69.95 then they have a 10.00 mail in rebate bringing it down to 59.95.
I took it out to a lake I fish at alot. I cast it out and was in awe how good this little device works. I am going back tomorrow armed with my tackle and try my luck. I found several underwater features I never knew was there. This thing is a bank fishermans dream. Mike |

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
Mike,
Now when you get a bigger fishfinder for your boat, if you go with Hummingbird Matrix Models(some not all). You can connect it to the matrix for a second transducer, and pick up stuff the one on the boat isn't reading Go to http://www.Humminbird.com and take a look at the Mtrix models for a description of what they can do. Also I bought one of those for my dad when they first came out. He likes it ok, but would rather me bring my boat to fish out of ;D Lizards |

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
I heard that these don't work when there is a chop to the water. That the wave action interfears with the reading.
Any truth to this? |

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
It's probably true. Makes sense that the transducer/transmitter would bob up and down with the waves. But a boat will do that too. Probably more noticable with this gizmo, but you should still be able to figure it out.

Re: Hummingbird SmartCast RF30
I tried with both calm water and choppy water as well. The readings for the test areas were the same regardless of the water conditions. You can effect the transmission of the signal if the transducer gets submerged on retreval.
