For a lake that small you could probably get by with a 12 ft jonboat with a trolling motor with 30 lbs. of thrust, but the bigger the boat the more comfortable it is to fish out of.

I occasionally fish a small size lake with a "basshunter". Its a 9' plastic boat with a 20 lb thrust trolling motor.
This place has low angling pressure and loads of big bass. You can't put anything in this lake thats got an outboard motor. Most of the people that you see are crappie fishing and therefore the bass can grow and grow and grow. I've probably caught enough bass from 4-6 lbs to fill up the bed of a pick-up. (with a couple bigger fish as well)
All released to be caught again.

Seems to me if you're using a Ki Yuck, you don't really need a trolling motor. Don't them things have them funny paddles?

A 12 ft Jon Boat with a 30 lb thrust TM will do the job on a small lake if you don't want to have to row, row, row your boat.

I have frequently fished with a friend in his 12' john boat with an electric motor, but I don't know the thrust. Never fished in a kayak, but you certainly can take more stuff with you in the john boat and you can stand up when you're hurting from sitting.

I would think a kayak would allow you to get into some tight spaces better, be possibly easier to transport and may be easier to launch in some places, like between bushes or something like that.

If storage and transporting wasn't a problem and you don't need the above advantages of a kayak, I think a john boat is a better choice.

Gotta go with the Jon boat. First big fish that runs behind you could put a real strain on you and your equipment. With the jon you can stand up and turn around if needed. 8)

Absoloutely the jon boat, for the reasons others have stated. The fact you can move around in it and stand up in it make it more worthwhile. I have been fishing from a jon boat for 5 years and have no complaints. I recently upgraded to a 36 trolling motor, but got by for a few years with a 24. The 24 was fine as long as you weren't in thick weeds. Plus with the jon boat you have the option of bringing a fishing partner with you.
