Also,be on the water befire the sun comes up.Coolest time of the day. That'll give you a good two hours before the heat starts bearing down.I've found the bass are in the shallows cruising and feeding at this time.

Re: Fishing during a heat wave
I agree
During hot summer days the bite for me up here is best about 5a.m. till about 10 mid morning They probably can be found all day, but boat traffic as well as the hot sun come into play. Plus the deer flies are out and biting , they always get me in the ankles lol |

Re: Fishing during a heat wave
During a heat wave, I typically have success at the following times:
1. Crack of dawn. This involves waking up insanely early, but is fun to do once in awhile. Wear a bughat and probably some long sleeves (put deet on your wrists!) 2. Right about noon. This is when the dragonflies are all over, and the bass are leaping at them. Try hopping a plastic worm along the lilypads. 3. An hour before sunset to as long as you can take it. For example, sunset is now around 8:30 pm, so I like to go out around 7-7:30. By 8:30, the mosquitoes begin to slowly kill me. Of course, this can all change on the weather. Has your area been getting those pm clouds and rain lately? Try heading out as soon as these clouds roll in. Just watch out for thunder! |

Deeper, thicker current...
fish deeper, its cooler thicker-its cooler current-its cooler, with more oxygen available |

Re: Fishing during a heat wave
yes....fish any current, deep water or shadows. and getting on the water before the sun comes up is also a great idea. if it is windy at all....and there is a tree casting shade in the water....i wouldd fish that area.....the shade makes it cooler for bass...and the wind knocks insects into the water from the tree.....the bass are killing 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak. 8)

Re: Fishing during a heat wave
get yourself some 1.25 oz. booyah grass jigs and start crashing them through deep matted weeds.the fish hide under the thick matts in the hot summer weather.if you have docks on your lakes on sunny days they may be far underneath them also.cloudy hot days a rattletrap in deep water may get hit a lot.

I agree with the tips above, but what is the water tempurature. That will dictate how how you fish. Even though the air temperature has been high, the water temp may not be.
