Default tournament clothing?

howcome when you see tournaments, mainly club tournament is what im talking bout, cause big names get paid big. but they wear those weird shirts that are real crisp and have brand names on them. is it just a preference? when i fish the tournaments in my jr. club i just wear the clothes i wera everyday, olive pants or shorts and a t shirt with a olive hoodie, but some of the people in it wear those weird shirts, i just call them weird cause they dont look very comfortable to me. i know one kid who has gone to nationals 2 yrs in a row and has a couple sponsers but he still wears street clothes as well. is it just personal preferance? also do those shirts have any benefits besides making you look like you know what your doing? (key phrase "Look like")

I know I own a "weird" shirt for fishing tournaments. It's a Calumbia t-shirt with a mesh back, and a flap of cloth covering it. It's a neutral color (tan) so it doesn't get dirty after I wipe my hands on it, and it's not so dark it bakes me when I'm in the middle of the lake on a hot august day. Basicly, I wear one because it makes me cool... like the Fonz. Ehhhh!

I think most of those guys wear those clothes to make them look like tourney fishermen, like you said. While the vented shirts and pants are nice, there are other things you can wear that are as good for competing in a tourney.

I was thinking if I ever made it to the pro tours I would dress like a bedouin in the summer. Talk about some clothes that can breathe. And it would also make me look like a complete jerk.

Many wear them because they have a sponsor or 2 so they need to have it shown. Many wear them because they think it makes them better fisherman, and many wear them because the want everyone else to think they are better fisherman than they are rotfl. I usually wear somekind of fishing t-shirt, and shorts(khaki) when it's hot, and whatever keeps me warm when it's cold, usually with my olive green rainsuit covering it all LOL.

When I first started bass fishing I thought they were cool. You do need one to fish the tourney's if you have big time sponsers. I bought two of the vented back fishing shirts at Gander Mt. One long sleve and one short. They are pretty comfortable. Sometimes I wear them and sometimes not. They have sun protection right in the fabric. By the way if you want a cool pro shirt Skeeter sells theirs for only $59.

the guide wear or pro angler shirts-both equally good- are vented and MUCH cooler than a regular t-shirt. spend 8-10 hours under a blazing sky. when the temps hit 100+ and you will be sweating like a pig in a regular t-shirt. these shirts keep you cooler and protect you from the sun.
not to mention you can put some "sweet" needle work on them..needle work is NOT cheap..

this was my former club shirt.

the club i am in right now i have a shirt and a jacket getting done.ok so they are both "atomic" color-orange- needle work cost abbout $175. but like i said worth the money..

As Lizards posted, if you have sponsors they expect you to wear their patch on the shirt. Things like the "Ranger Cup" pay extra money if you are wearing their logo.

Some guys will wear them for added confidence. Kind of like a golfer with the nice shirt and Dockers. Even if your a hack you look good doing it!

So thats what you waste your money on zook, clothes?

I don't pay over 20 bucks for a fishing shirt, even vented ones. And there isnt a huge difference between t shirts and those vented shirts either. I know a little about the heat. Finally, if you want a vented shirt, cut a hole in it...there! Its just as effective.

Sponsors like the advertisement.
Currently, I have patches on my shirts but only with those companies who I am associated.

So ILfishinman learn to spell and be carefull what you say. Don't be offensive.

I bought a long sleeved World Wide Sportsman shirt last fall and really like it. Tan, breathes really well, and sheds water. Worth the small extra $ compared to other shorts. I will get some short sleeved ones for this summer.

I'd guess that this statement might be the problem. Also if you make a mistake, use the edit button, and go back and correct it.

Most pro's don't fish in the "weird" shirts. They are very expensive and it takes a long time to get all of the work done on them. Most put them on in the morning before launch and then again before weigh in. At least that is what I've seen when fishing with them.

Why do small club fishermen wear them??? Maybe they like the look or want to copy what they see on tv. Some might have sponsors. Why do guys wear jackets with their club names on the back??? Probably they are proud of the group they belong to.

A local boat dealer supports a high school that has a huge Jr. fishing program. He provides boats and adult drivers for free so that the students can fish the State events. The boat manufacturer donated to every member of the club a "boat logo" shirt with the dealers logo on it. The students wear the shirts to support the business that supports their organization. Take a look and see http://eteamz.active.com/ocssanglers/. By the way, the club has doubled it's membership since the picture was taken.
Next time you see one of the Jr. club members wearing a shirt walk up to him and ask him why he wears the shirt. See what he says. But remember to do it politely.

woah thats awesome, wish champaign was a lil closer to decent waters and maybe our high skool would do something like that. its hard to even find anybody in my school that is somewhat serious about bass fishing, most i ask if they like fishing its jsut bobber and worm every now and then, bet if we had a fishing club i would find the people who like it.

Create and organize then find a sponser, usually a science or phys ed teacher or coach. Then contact your state federations and see who does what. BASS or FLW. Make an announcement or two and away you go.
