Default Perch on Bass Lures?

Has anyone ever caught perch on bass lures before. Well I
ve never seen it done until today. My dad and I were fishing our pond: I was using a Zoom Super Fluke (watermelon candy) and he was using a Husky Jerk (clown). Anyways, he noticed that the Husky Jerk did in fact sink very slowly. Well he let it sink to the bottom and started twitching it. next thing I know he's got a fish. I though it was a small bass, but when he pulled it out of the water, it was an 11" Perch.

Anyone else ever catch perch on bass tackle?

No , but ive cought bluegill on a black bandit series 100 crankbait more than once , and they were nice sized..Also had a very small bluegill that kept pecking on my senko , I reeled it in almost to the boat , I seen that little guy pecking at it , I lifted the bait out of the water and that fish had about 1/4" of the baits tail in its mouth , and the fish came out of the water with the worm , then it shook violently like it was hooked , before finally letting go and falling back into the water , it was funny , had to be there...

Big B- When you say perch, are you asking about yellow perch? Down here, just about anything that's not a bass, catfish, pickeral, crappie or carp is called a perch. Either way, yes. I caught a fat, lil' yellow perch at Smith Mountain Lake on a BPS tender tube this winter. He was a cute little fella! Bluegill and other sunfish will try and eat just about anything we throw at them and are a huge pain during tournaments (except for helping to locate bass).

Yes, I was talking about yellow perch. And if it was winter, your cute, fat little perch would probably not like it if you keep callin her a 'he'. probably full of eggs. The one we caught today was a male, and 11" is a big male perch.

I've slayed Perch on the X-rap. I even had 2 perch on one cast once. They love that slashbait.

Thanks, Big B! That was the only real perch I ever caught. About twenty years ago I was fishing with this fellow and he caught one about 6" or so. He was real proud about it and asked me if I'd ever seen a baby tiger muskie before. I thought he was joking until his son told me years later that his dad also liked to tell folks about the sockeye salmon and freshwater flounder they stocked in Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yup, the big perch I caught this winter Ice fishing had an egg sack as big as a tennis ball. We're going to fry and and cook it with the fish cause I've never had that before.

I caught a huge bluegill on an original Bomber Model A.

Last spring I caught the biggest crappie of my life with a 3/8 oz. purple and chartreuse spinnerbait that I'd been catching 3 - 4 lb. bass with. This was out of a pond of about an acre and a half that I fish all the time and it was the only crappie I'd ever caught there.

Yep, the 2 times that come to mind are...

Using a big spinnerbait in a marina I caught a MONSTER sunfish/bluegill/perch (whatever you wanna call it) on Lake Travis. The second time/times is when Im using a Yamamoto Kut-tail worm on a t-rig. They seem to be all over that biat.......little turds!

The sip's post brought to mind a similar situation. I don't even remember where it was, but one of if not the biggest bluegill I ever caught was on a spinnerbait-had a blue/chartreuse/white skirt if I remember correctly.

Yep, caught a MD citation, 13" yellow, on a 7" power worm on the Potomac while bass fishing in June. But then I've caught citation carp and blue cats on bass baits as well. Those river fish eat anything.

I've caught several. Most in one particular pond. I've caught them on cranks, spinnerbaits and also a 13" on a Hula Grub. Several bluegill on verious lures too. You name it and I've probably caught it while bass fishing!

if you bass fish long enough you tend to catch a lil of everything that swims in that body of water..
we have the lil yellow perch in these lakes but we also have a speices of white perch that school up and are alot of fun on regular bass tackle. not to mention the very aggressive brim.

here is a few pic's of assorted non bass caught on bass tackle..
white perch

brim

flathead

turttle-stop laughin and take the picture-

white perch

crappie

massive gizzard shad -oh how he fought lol-

walkamaw

channel catfish

striped bass-bad picture i know..

so no catching perch are not the only problems we face.. as a certain man once told me" i have to deal with thousands of horny love sick lizards here on the potomic"

Zooker's pics reminded me of some more. I caught a channel cat on a Frenzy rat-l-trap knockoff, a bluegill on a Zara Spook, and a grass carp on an X-Rap.

I also left a worm on a jig under a bobber to get a perch or something while I casted for pike and a duck came to check out the bobber and somehow got hooked. It snapped my rod before I could get to it and then the reel and all went in the lake. That's why the signs say don't feed the ducks.

a bluegill on a Spook?! a regular sized spook?? Must've been a big bluegill, I would've brought him home and cooked him.

To us here in CNY a perch is only a yellow perch, and my son landed a 12' yellow perch lat year on a senko. He also caught a helluva snapping turtle on a power worm or trick worm, I don't recall which; I'll look for the picture!!!!1
