i use both at the same time
first i set a worm on the bottom on a bobber and get some that way. then i fish with my artifical at the same time.

i have to disagree, Plastic worms and bass lures are much more effective. Everytime I( and im sure most of the other guys) use live bait in a pond, lake or river, either the sunfish, trout, or chubes will get it first.

If ya can keep the panfish and bottom feeders off your live bait, I tend to think that most bass can't resist live bait, the bad part is that no tournie will allow that, so you may as well get used to pluggin away

Sorry, but I just have to do this. The word is "artificial", not "artificle".

damn hula, you beat me to it ;D anyways, i think live will always get a bass...i mean it is what they eat...but i feel better about catching fish on artificials....i mean, anybody can catch fish on live...takes a real bassfisher to catch one on an artificial. plus, whats the fun of using live? its not like im tryin to fish for food...if that was the case then i would use live....because its so easy to catch fish on live bait...but im not tryin to fish for food, its for sport, and artificials is the only way to go when fishing for sport. i can catch fish even when its cold....you just have to know what to do...thats the whole point of bass fishing....to say that you use live when it gets cold is taking fun out of the sport...it is now catching...not fooloing the fish...but simply catching....which is boring. the man who fishes with artificial all the time, no matter what the conditions.....is the true bass fisher. 8)

Both have their places. When fishing is tough live bait will often produce when artificial won't. But as 02 said fishing artificial lures is more of a challenge. And theres nothing like a live shiner for big bass. It is also easier to find fish with artificial. Live bait is easy to fish making it great for beginners.

artificial. live bait, while productive, is too expensive and messy compared to artificial alternatives.

I would say artificial for sure. Ever since I changed over to them. I used to live bait but the stupid bluegills kept on getting to them.

I haven't used live bait in years. Got a buddy that does and I outfish him on a consistant basis. Nothing wrong with it-I just prefer artificials.

I would have to say i catch most of my bass and pike on artificial but i occasionally catch bigger bass on live helgramites or minnows right before a storm comes in
