1/2 & 1/2,I use first aid bandage tape to secure the line to the spool to prevent the line from slipping on the spool because the knot won't hold it in place. When tieing a lure on I use a polamar knot. When I set the hook on a fish I have to unbind the line in the spool manually or you can lose a lure if you cast further than your lure was on the last hookset. I hope this helps you. P N J

I use a Polamar Knot on everything. I use cheap mono as backer line that I put on the spool first. Then I tie the Fireline or Powerpro to it. I've always found it better to keep a decent amount of tention on the line as I spool it up. As PNJ stated, it will dig in a little occasionally, however if you just pull of an extra few feet on your casts until it "breaks in" you don't have the problem anymore. When I cut off some of the end(approx 10') I then again pull off a few extra feet on the casts till the newer 10 feet gets broken in.

I'm with PnJ and Lizards-Palomar to tie a bait to Powerpro, and either a small amount of mono or piece of tape to secure to the spool unless it is a whiffle spool. Then I just thread it through a couple of the holes and tie it off.

I'm a Fireline rookie, having just started using it last year. I tie a Palomar, just as I do with mono, but with the Fireline, I have a little trouble cinching it down.

Fireline seems to dig in a little, so it doesn't flow off the spool as smoothly or cast as far as mono, but the difference isn't huge.

Marty read my post above. Once it breaks in it will be AWESOME, and outcast your other mono I promise.

HALF & HALF,

I go at the problem a little different than the others that replied. I spool on about a half a spool of old mono, which is tied to the spool with a slip knot (knotted on the tip to keep it from coming loose) I then cover the mono with a couple layers of electricians plastic tape, pulled down tight. I then tie the Power Pro to the spool with a slip knot (also knotted on the tip) I then wind about 50 yards of the braid onto the spool. The slip knot will let the braid bite into the mono and it will not slip on the spool. If you run the braid all the way to the spool while fighting a fish (I don't know why anyone would allow a fish to run 50 yards) the slip will bite into the mono cushion even tighter. The thin layer of braid will not pull down into itself as bad as it would if you wind a whole spool full of braid. Also, when you change line, you only replace 50 yards (3 reel fills from a 150 yd. spool) An added advantage is that if you get a severe "professional over-run" it will be easier to pick out with only 50 yds of line to straighten out.
