Open Water Bass
What is a good lure or live bait for open water bass? Water clarity is clear. Not many bass, but what is there is average size to large. Public Farm Pond Fishing.

A chrome/blue back Rat-L-Trap. In clear water cranking one of those fast can generate quite a few hits.

Re: Open Water Bass
If it is like most of the stock tanks I fish, the fish are a pretty captive audience and will hit most anything. But yours says public, so it is most likely not the same. I think I would try a small worm or small spinner bait. Make a special effort to pick out something smaller than the normal lures that other who fish that tank would have been throwing. If you see something unusual that looks like it would work, give it a try.
As for live bait, you would have to check your local laws, but goldfish are legal here and work very well. At least they did years ago when I was fishing live bait. Good luck! |

I agree that Traps are a great search bait. However, in clear water, perhaps you'll find that non-rattling baits are worth a try. Three in the Rapala line that come to mind are the Original Shad Rap, Countdown and Fat Rap.
Naturally, other lures should be tried too, like jigs and a variety of soft plastics. |
