Default Red hooks in clear water

Hey, should I use red worm hooks on my flukes and worms and tiki stick's in clear water. Or does it realy matter at all?

There was a recent thread on that very subject. Some folks like them, some don't think they make a difference. The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned-haven't used them enough to have a good feel for them yet.

With plastics,I can't really tell any difference. With movement baits such as spinnerbaits,Jerkbaits, and crankbaits the red hooks seem to help.I'm no expert on the subject, but I've developed some confidence in that aspect.

Just make sure that your wide gap worm hooks are as strong as your regular worm hooks. Regular wide gap hooks won't bend as much as the red hooks that I've found.
However, I'm still wondering if that makes so much of a big difference. Often the way that the hook is in the fishes mouth leads me to believe that when I set the red hook it could be bending some, while the regular hook is in a firm holding position.

I may need to try some other brands, but I stopped using the red hooks all together because, like Bassman, I was having problems with my red hooks bending. Well, straightening, I guess. Bends are good in hooks, straight, not so much.

Heres an idea. It might not work but you can give it a try. If your worried about the bending, get a regular silver worm hook. Get some of some spike-it worm dip or spike it markers, and change the color of the hook to red. Like I said I dont know if it will work or not but you can give it a try. :-/

Might as well just get the Spike Blade dip, it's a heck of a lot easier, and designed for metal blades.

I've noticed no difference. Was wondering if any other color hook would work-such as yellow, orange, chaurtruse, etc?

As long as it has a sharp point, and it's sturdy it will work IMO

By the way how are those buzzbaits working for you?

Speaking of buzz baits I need to get some!

Â* My stock of eggbeaters is down ...due to corrosion the
alum parts are breaking down. I'll get some stand white ones with either a 2 or 3 aluminum blade, and then put on my fav grub trailer, a Kalins Lemon ChaffonÂ* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*

Idon't think the bit of red makes any difference but I think the red doesn't hurt at all. I still buy them, they are the same price and they look cool. ;D

Same here. It doesnt hurt to add some flash too your lures. And they are the same price. Why not use them

As already stated, the down side is they aren't usually as strong as the standard hook. If and when they start making them the quality of the Owner brand or the Gammy Superline hooks, I would consider them, but until they do, I want a stronger hook. Of course I use superlines, and heavier equipment to go along with those hooks
