heard alot bout frogs and decided to buy one got strike king and was wondering what was the officially the correct way to fish it sum people say jerk it like popper adn heard should just pull it in short pulls any answers would be helpful thanx

The way I've seen it used most is fishing it like a buzzbait. Pull it fast enough to let the tails break the plane of the water often produces quick reactionary strikes if you cast it onto lillypads.

There are many ways to fish toads (frogs). The fish will basically let you know what they want. One of the most productive methods for me is a steady retrieve across the tops of pads. Another is to let the toad slip under the surface as you retrieve it into a spot of open water after it crosses a pad or some grass or weeds. Some weight the toads or use them as jig trailers. I just bought some of the weighted frog hooks which I plan to use soon. I have had good results swimming them along the outside edges of pads with a slow retrieve. There have been days when all I fished with was this bait. I use 50 lb. braided line with a 7ft. heavy baitcasting rod. You could use a non braided line when fishing them in open water. I wouldn't use anything lighter than 17lb. test for that application. You need a good solid hook set to sink the hook through some of these baits. Make sure you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook or you will miss a lot of them. At first it might be frustrating not hooking up but with practice you will see better results. Another thing is to have another rod rigged up with a follow up bait. If one hits your bait on the retrieve and misses throw to that spot with another type of plastic bait. I have been hearing that bass will come from deeper water to hit these baits. This method could work over open water or the outside edges of deep weedbeds. Something I will try this year. Good luck.

On the floating frogs alot of people make the mistake of putting the frog in action to soon. When throwing the frog be sure and give the bass time to hone in on the frog before moving it when fishing heavy vegation. And then I start working the frog in short hops trying to mimic a frogs real actions. On frogs like the horny toads I try to mimic the oh crap I feel in the water and gotta get my *** outta here before I get eaten. Works for me.

If you got a Strike King, I'm assuming it's a Grass Frog, a lure I've used for years. There's no one correct way. you can swim it steadily, or do an erratic retrieve like twitch-pause-twitch, etc. In vegetation it would be a good idea to pause it in holes in the weeds and at the edges. It's also good to retrieve it next to and parallel to the edge. I always use the trailer hook that comes with the bait.

We usually throw on a mat of vegetation for bass that are under the shade, and rather than a steady retrieve, we throw it out, let it sit, and then make short movements and let it stop, the bass can see the weight of the frog on the mat and whacks it...
On the horney toad, you can use a constant retrieve like a buzzbait, or use many other variations like a stop n go, or pop it.
Depends if you are fishing open water, a mat, reeds or lily pads. Take note to let the frog go under if a strike occurs, many times we pull the bait out of the bass's mouth with all the excitement of the "blowup'

I haven't had a strike on a frog in years, I suppose it would help if I actually tied one on my line now and then. Seriously, as others have menioned, there is a lot of ways to work frogs, and I like to tell folks to remember to be versatile with almost any bait/lure.
