Re: best all around line
Tough question.
If you are talking mono, there is not one. To many different needs. If you want abrasion resistance, you give up castability, if you want castabilty, you give up some abrasion resistance. The reason I use PowerPro braided line is because it is as close to the ultimate line as i have ever found. Extreme abrasion resitance, Incredible Strength, Casts a country mile, and super sensitive. Braid comes as close to an all around line as i could recommend. Keep in mind though, I do not care for mono, and do not use it. Charles |

Re: best all around line
Berkley Big Game covers most of my fishing except spinning gear. For that, Trilene XT (1000 yard spools)- I like that spool size because it has less memory.

Re: best all around line
I like hate to admit it but I broke down and paid 15 bucks to fill my spool with power pro, I swore off braid spent more money then I can count buying all the crap that is out there. I have to say its good stuff, doesnt handle like my TriXL but its just as sensitive.

It is my preffered choice, I like the mana flex, it has great castability and great strnegth. I also like the Stren Original, but for trout fishing( i know its a bass board) i like vanish gold |

Re: best all around line
i caught about 15 pound steele head on stren with a fly rod. he broke me in the riffles. later that day after a change to ande 10 pound mono i set a line class record with a 18.7 pound steele head on the same rod reel combo.i have also caught a 28 pound salmon with the same rod later that year on the same line-i never changed it- both caught in the same river in western ny.

Re: best all around line
I love Excalibur Silver Thread, extremely soft and strong, great on spinning and doubles for casting gear...Also I like the Silver Thread Flouro. and also Carbon Pro Flouro for baitcasting... The only time I use braids or superlines is when flippin heavy grass...

Re: best all around line
I agree that there is not one specific line that will cover all situations. It all depends on what you are fishing for, what type of cover, water clarity, size of the lure, so on and so on. Unless I am flipping some really heavy stuff, I don't care for braids, its just a personal preference, and kind of old fashioned I know. If I were to have to pick one line to fish with for the rest of my time I would have to go with Berkely big game in 12 to 15lb test. I have caught a lot of fish on this line, and a lot of different fish on this line. Anything from big bull redfish, to speckled trout, to bass, to huge catfish. It has served me well, therefore I stick with it. Good fishing.

Re: best all around line
Well I don't know what the answer is but the line on my reels at the time is the one that gets used.It may not be "the best for the job" but it works well enough to catch fish. Now Stren & Tuf-Line are the brands I use most frequently.I am going to try the new Sufix line this year.I loved the Toray ninja line bass pro shop used to carry but its not in their catalog this year.P N J PSZooker, do you have something against spelling ain't correctly? Its not true that if you say ain't, your mother will fall in a bucket of paint. ;D

Re: best all around line
If you're gonna use braided, go with powerpro, nothing better. Â*As far as mono goes, I'm really starting to like cajun red a lot, escpecially for the price.

Re: best all around line
I like magna-flex pretty much. Power-pro for braid. I read somewhere that original stren was one of the best lines in a comparison with a lot of other lines of all types.

Re: best all around line
DJ, I was just picking on Zooker. It is true what he said, We lived really close to one another before he moved.I think he dated my cousin Andrea, but he says he only knew her. : She told him I have been dead for a couple of years too. ??? I inherited my fathers name, but I have always been known by my nickname to freinds as well as family members, so she got alittle confused is all. ;D Zooker, If you follow my posts real well, I frequently make speelling mistakes, and the good lord knows I never learn punctuation usage. ;D I try my best though. :P P N J

Re: best all around line
Used to use Stren origional. Then came the Fluocarbon and I was forced to change. Stren Fluo. is awesome.
Low stretch, low vis.under water, abrasion resitant ,uv rays won't affect it, and it's strength is definitely a plus. Did use Ande but the memory was bad news. It's also not in a fluocarbon (except leaders). Doesn't last as long as fluocarbon, loads of stretch, etc... Have tried different lines such as Fireline, fusion,Vanish,Seagure,Royal Bonnell,BPS,Trilene. For satisfaction, try Stren. You'll be impressed. |
