Just enough breeze to ripple the surface. I don't like getting blown all over the lake, although in South Texas that seems to be the rule. Zooker, on the other hand, prefers to fish in a hurricane

really depends on what im fishing. if i fish a buzzbait, i want alitle chop. if i fish a popper, i want calm water. topwaters are really the only baits that are affected by the waves and what not. but i could be wrong.

Well there is advantages to both. In still water bass are more easily spooked. In choppy water bass are less hesitant to feed. But while the water is still, topwater fishing is a lot better. A strong wind can also be a disadvantage if it blows your boat everywhere. Especially in a flatbottom. I've been out before and the wind was blowing the boat and anchor around. Its also hard to cast in a strong wind. Like Rebasser I would have to go with a light breeze.

Depends on the bait. Â*A big bait like a Heddon Zara Spook or a prop bait like a Smithwick Devil's Horse can be real productive in choppy water. Â*A spook:
A Devil's Horse: ![]() These are big baits that create quite a disturbance even in choppy water. Â*The Spook is a "walking" bait-the retrieve is called "walking the dog". Â*The Devil's horse is a prop bait that creates bubbles and noise when you jerk it across the surface. I still prefer just a gentle breeze. |

Nothing like a slight breeze to get a ripple going on a cloudy day.

I like to tie on the buzzbait whenever I see white caps. ;D
Actually, I prefer the calmer the better, no wind whatsoever, deadstill. Makes it easier to see fleeing baitfish in the area and sometimes allows you to see the wake from the bass chasing the baitfish. |

I like a little stain to the water and of course a nice breeze is the best!
Just enough breeze to run a spinnerbait but not to windy that you can't watch your line if ya decide to worm fish 8) |

Overcast with a slight breeze, but I've fished in 20 mile an hour winds and caught fish.

Its blowing like crazy today, 21-35 mph winds sustained, but sure looks like a fishing day to me...
Just to windy tho, I have found over the years that once ya get a steady wind of 15+ its hard to fish, esp if you have to cast into the wind,,gotta keep that rod low and side cast.. |

water color matters to me only in what lures and colors i use. weather it be red and thick or real clear. as for the wind -getting good at detecting light bites with a 30 foot loop between the rod and the water surface- to me a creamy day would be one that is dead calm nothing moving with cloud cover. prefure it hot 100+ air temps 90+ water temps.
but seems to me that ole mother nature pretty much hates the tri county club members for some reason-what did you do to her bassnman? zooker

Ideal is 80 degree air temps, high seventy degree water temps, with about 3-4 feet water visibility with a slight breeze. Overcast is preferrred, but as long as the wind isn't blowing me everywhere, I'll fish in it, be it 20 degrees or 100+ degrees.

Zook, I guess I fooled with mother nature once too often !
Actually I prefer off color water, with a slight breeze. In those conditions you can fish about any type baits that you prefer. Overcast skies are a plus. |
