when using one of those hook scales where you hook the bass, where is the best place Â*to hook them? i heard it was in the corner of their mouth? this is what im talkin about:

Normally i do it in the corner of the mouth or on the chin.

I actually go straight down the middle so the scale hooks under the jaw. 8)

Hook it on the lower jaw, immediately next to the hard outer lip, so the weight of the fish is supported by that hard outer lip. You don't want to hook it where the weight would cause torn membranes.

Best scale as far as I'm concerned, thing floats, comes with tags to tag your fish in your live well so you know what weights you have for quick throw backs, easy to hold in your hand, easy on the fish, goes to 35 pounds,water proof,stores your last 5 heaviest fish in it's memory(that's cool),two types of measurements,another mode records last 15 fish.

Although little pricey at 115$ worth it's weight in gold for the serious fishermen.

ones a scale, and the other one has to be some kind of tagger he was talkin about. or maybe a smaller scale?

The item on the left is the scale and the item on the right is a marking device. You record the weight via the scale and log in the number on the marking device to let you know what that fish weighs so you can cull.

Thanks, although I'm still a little confused (what else is new?). Does the marking device mark the fish in some manner? How do you log in a number?

looks like that you log a number into it, then weight each bass untill you find the bass that matches the number?

MARTY,
You weigh the fish and enter the weight into the scale memory, then you attach a numbered tag to the fish that is in the memory. The first fish you weigh would go into the memory as fish #1, so you would attach tag #1 to that fish. the next fish you catch would log into the memory as fish #2 and would record the weight in the memory. Then you would attach tag #2 to that fish. After you have your limit, you keep fishing and if the next fish weighs more than one you have already caught, you will know which fish to cull and throw back.

roland likes to go up in wieght for some reason, even on the small dinks, its a half, one, one and half two pounder. And his wife is an idiot

02, I have seen the scale you have pictured. It is not worm proof plastic, so don't throw any loose or used baits in the same compartment with it, because it ain't pretty.They are cheap enough to buy again though. I got a Rapala spring scale when my Normark electronic scale was no longer working right.Jackl, it went the other way, A 5.4 lb fish only weighed 1.6 lbs with the scale. P N J

Thank you. I certainly understand the concept. I presume when you catch a sixth fish, you check the scale memory to see which number represents the smallest fish, then you cull it. So are we saying that the second piece of that equipment has no purpose other than it's merely a tool to attach a numbered tag to the fish?

I just can't look at that gizmo and visualize what it attaches, how, and to what part of the fish, but we've spent enough time answering my silly questions, so it's not necessary to continue. Thanks again.
