Default Question about prop on 1997 Ranger.

I have a 1997 Ranger R80 with a Yamaha Pro V 150. It has a good hole shot and top end is 59 mph with a GPS at 5300 rpm and 2 people in the boat. My question is the boat has a 25p prop from ranger. Does this sound correct? Also, What affects would a 23p have vs. the 25. Thanks in advance.

With the speed you're running, and the RPM you're turning you're about right on the money. Â*Dropping down to a 23 would get you more RPM's but I believe the Yamaha is supposed to turn about 5500. Â*Take out the 2nd person and that person's gear, and I'll bet you're right at 5500. (I assume you're holding good water pressure since you didn't mention it?)

Sounds like you've got a rood running "Lead Sled".

If it ain't broke. Â*Don't fix it.

Creaid, As Cajun said ,that sounds like its where you want to be on the tach. A 23 pitch will give you a little more speed, but in my opinion it would not be a good trade off for what little bit of speed your gaining your also gaining RPM's, and your already where your wanting to be on that. P N J

An Evinrude is capable of running at 5800 to 6000 rpm. This will upgrade the speed to appx. 65 or slightly more.
Currently, I have an Evinrude 150 that runs about the same as your's. I'm considering getting the thing "tuned" up to run the max. Maybe it's the prop, maybe it's the exceleration reference the carburators.
I'll let the mechanic figure it out.
