trolling motor setup

My boat is my boat is about 2700 LBS. fully loaded. I was wondering how many pounds of thrust I would need to push it along alright? The bow on this boat is so high that I will need a 50 or 60 inchshaft. Also, to set it up right what would I have to put in in terms of batteries and battery chargers. The bow of my boat Also has a stainless steel on it that is fairly high. Will I just have to cut part of it out or is there a mount that will let me lift it up in a way that I will not have to cut it? I was thinking of a pontoon boat mount.

i am going to guess you have a ss railing around the bow of your boat. i do not know of a mount that would go over any railing-personly i would remove it all- i would start at 70 pounds and go upward. 60" shaft if you fight alot of rough water.

i have a small boat that only weighs 1200 pounds loaded and have a 52 lb 12 volt system trolling moter on it.

If you mean a rail you will probably have to remove it. If it is a plate get a set of motorguide mounts. they are a t-shaped rubber plug with a thread in the bottom. Drill a hole big enough for the plug, insert it. then there is a long screw that goes into it. As it tightens up it holds the TM in place but no need to get a separate nut under the deck. My boat lists at 2200 lbs empty, so with all the geat I have in it I think it is comparable in weight to yours. It came with a 43 lb 12 volt TM that wasn't powerful enough for the South Texas winds, so I got a 71 lb 24 volt. It uses 2 batteries hooked up in series, but it has been well worth it. I also got a Bassmaster (Pro Mariner) on board charger. Just plug it in and forget it. It is a 2 bank 10 amp charger-onlu my TM batteries are hooked up to it. The cranking battery I use an external charger if needed, but I just replaced my cranking battery so I am good to go for now. If your TM will sit high the longer shaft is a good idea.

It is a stainless steel railing that goes all over the bow. I could probably just take out a 1 1/2 foot section of it. What would you recommend in terms of brands. I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg on it although one with that much thrust is going to be expensive?

Also I was looking at the ones that mount on your engine's cavitation plate. It a good idea but you will have to have someone else steering on the steering wheel while you are up in front fishing. Should I even consider those?
