DON,
Check with your local Mercury dealers for a lower unit off a blown Mercury or Mariner motor. The early Force motors used a Chrysler lower unit, but the later ones used a Mercury. I am not sure what year they made the change over.

force moter's are made by mercury. as far as i know it seems force had alot of problems..
but all lowers ends are costly you are looking at 2000-2500 for one..

ZOOKER,

Factory rebuilt lowers are available for around $1200 to $1400. I just figured Don would be looking for a cheaper way out than that.

I have a 90HP 1992 Force, and have only had 1 problem, and that was the fuel pump housing cracked. So as for me I have a lot of confidence to this point in them. But it's the only I've owned.

Don, Look around, There are a ton of Force motors out there. They usually have little problems with the lower units, its usually the powerhead or the power packs on them that are a problem. If you find another motor, you will have extra parts as well.I hope this helps. P N J

force lower units are a piece of cake to rebuild.did a 35h.p lower unit on the kitchen table in a half hour.
but the parts ain't cheap
maybe you only need a bearing or pinion gear.
with all new parts including the housing(hit a rock)the parts cost me $600.00

Do an internet search for "used outboard parts". You'll be amazed what you find out there.
