Default prop guestion

I recently bought a '93 stratos 250v. 15 footer with a '91 evinrude 40 hp motor. It doesnt want to plan out well and i was told the old prop was damaged and replaced. The previous owner just went to a store and bought the first prop he saw rated for a 40hp motor. I think it has the wrong pitch. Does anyone know what pitch i need or where i can find out?

Mike, You can put a few different pitched props on it for a heavy load carry, a 12-1/2 X 13 prop for a faster prop but less load bearing weight you can use a 12-1/4 X 15 prop. The first number is the prop size and the second number is the pitch. There are a few more but this will give you an idea . Also you may want to go with a3 or 4 blade prop rather than a 2 blade. It will help you carry the weight better and get on plane easier. I hope this helps. ;D P N J

Mike, There usually is the number of the pitch stamped on the prop . It will be on the main part of the hub. there usually is a P after the number but not always. I hope this helps. P N J
