Is August your worst fishing month?
It can be hear.
By august the water is down, the fish have been hammered to death with anglers pressure, some lightweights anglers start wimping out and getting ready for hunting, or waiting on the fall feed which to me is tricky to figure out, ya go in Sept and Oct up here and even Nov. and they usually start feeding late sept, the air temp in ohio stays hot in Sept during the days, and usually by mid Oct all the lakes start to lower the lake for dock repairs and winter freeze out... So if ya go out in August usually a couple of fish is a good day ... Anyone else Fish all year or find August a slow month? |

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
August is a great month for me.
Usually bass start feeding a lot around late May here and will bite into late October. You can fish for them on open water April 1st (if it's melted) until Novemeber 30th (if it hasn't froze yet.) The rest of the time, we have an ice fishing season. Bass can be caught, but pickerel/pike and trout fishing is more popular in the winter. In fact, trout fishing is more popular here winter, spring, and fall. |

Lone ARcher
Tip It! We ice fish all the time here, however the real bite doesnt get good till about Feb, by then they are starving lol We usually have ice of about 4-11 inches and its off and on, usually will stay locked out for at least couple months, the only thing that seems to work it wax worm tipped on 1/32 jig..orange or green or pink or favs.. I got a new Lazer hand auger, I bet up your way they use gas ones eh? Ever get a fish bigger than the hole? Lol |

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
i have no problems with fishing in august. we normally are running upper 90's most of the month. and humidity is super stick a fork in it thick. if you are tourny fishing hit the best places first cause most bites are done by 9 am.
febuary sucks for me. zooker

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
Not bad for me. The heat slows em down from 10 am till about 5 pm. The worst part is the dang heat and humidity. 8)

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
if you can make the proper adjustments, august can be one of the best months for fishing. like you mentioned jb, the fish have been hammered to death, its SUPER hot, the water is ACTUALLY (usually) up from all the summer rains we get down here so the fish are a little more spread out. Simple solution to all these little problems, night fishing, takes care of the heat, takes care of the pressure, topwaters are already an EXCELLENT night bait, but also an EXCELLENT bait when its been raining and the water is up, as the rains wash bugs, worms, and other critters into the waters sending the fish to the top to feed already. August isn't my toughest month, its my FAVORITE month, well maybe 2nd favorite month behind March. If you turn to day fishing in august, yes, its brutal.

I find that Jan. is a tough month. Cold weather as well as cold water temps.

August is good here...our worst month is probably January too...so cold and fish don't move..but i'm more worried about hunting when that time comes around

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
It can be awful hot, but it can also be great-the bass will school up and chase shad like white bass do. Right place, right time can be a fish every cast.

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
in the colder months including february i use a small spinner and just barely real it...it's the only thing that i find works but if i only catch one fish a day i'm happy..hell, that time of year i'm happy if i catch a bass that week!!

Re: Is August your worst fishing month?
Rodman_Rob,
thanks for the positive feedback. Just cus its august won't stop me from going lol Its more of the constant pressure anglers give the fish is what slows the bite down a tad. I have been fishing deeper all summer and see the results nearly every day |
