Not so fast, my friend! That is a good solid reel and will work fine for general bass fishing-spinnerbaits, crankbaits, soft plastics, etc. For someone starting out is it a great first reel. I keep a couple in my boat because every now and then I fish with someone who doesn't use spinning gear or baitcasters. Put one on a MH rod, hook up a wacky rig and you are good to go. As you get more into bass fishing you will probably want to move up to better equipment but for starting out it is a good reel. |

Re: wal mart reels
I think its a little undesized and well, dinky for bass fishing. For complete beginners it works, but its not really a bass reel per se.

Re: wal mart reels
i have to go with rebasser on this one. for the begginer it will work just fine as rebasser said. most of us EXPERTS. very seldom hook up with the big boys 5 +lbs. bass. as he gets into bass fishing and the baitmonkey gets hold of him. he will upgrade. a lot of good fish have been caught on a zebco33.

Re: wal mart reels
I purchased the Rhino RSC3 combo at Wal-Mart and it works fine for my needs. I'm fairly new to the bass fishing and I couldn't see spending alot of money just startsing out. My grandpa's used Zebco and they caught plenty of fish. It's what you can afford at the time.

Re: wal mart reels
I own a Zebco 33 that Zebco sent me for free. I usually use baitcasters and openfaces, but I like being able to go back to the basics on the 33.
The 33 was my first reel and to this day believe in it. If you want to use a 33, then go for it. |

Re: wal mart reels
As WTL stated, it's not a Bass fishing reel per se, however it will work just fine. I, as Rebasser have some folks who I fish with that want to use spincasters, such as my dad. I set it up with a 6'6" MH rod, and he catches lots of bass with it just fine. It also has a slower gear ratio, so will help keep you from using crankbaits too fast. I also use them in the really cold months, when you want a slow presentation, and I keep my hands a lot drier

Re: wal mart reels
Its probably the best pushbutton reel out there for the money
I had one back in the last 70s and went to Tenn to fish with it, they get the job done |

Re: wal mart reels
Started out with a 33 and kept 2 of them for years. One broke and is in a drawer, the other is attached to my 9 y/o daughters pole. Both of these are probably 15-20 years old and still are great. Ive used it with small unweighted worms just to play. If you like it and it's all you can afford, go with it. At least you are fishin'. 8)
