Default Cleaned my reel and...

I just broke down and cleaned my reel for the first time using Lake Fork's Tackle DVD... GREAT VIDEO!!! Put the reel back together and everything works great. However, I have noticed a very SLIGHT klunkiness in the anti-reverse. It gives just a tad more than it used to. Did I grease something that wasn't supposed to be greased??? I just cleaned and greased everything that looked like it had factory grease on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of reel is it? Â*Some reels have an 8 pt. anti-reverse gear and the anti-reverse dog is driven up between the teeth of the gear when you try to back reel or when the line is pulled on. The anti-reverse dogs have a piece of copper plate attached on either side of the dog to keep the dog guided square on the gear so it doesn't slip underneath the anti-reverse gear when pressure is applied. Â*The plates should slip over the anti-reverse gear (one on top and one on bottom) when you put the reel back together. Alot of times the anti-reverse dog will slip back out of position when putting the reel back together.

It's a Shimano Curado 201. Anything I can do without having to dissassemble everything again? Thanks.

Ahhh, Â*that has the infinite anti-reverse bearing the go's over the main shaft. Â*Well bad news friend...you probably well have to take that apart to fix it. Â*Did you remove the small bearings from inside that larger cylinder? And did you use Grease in it or oil? Â*If you used grease your going to have to re-do it. Â*should only use oil on the bearings inside that main cylinder that slips over the drive shaft. Â*I think, but am not positive that the roller bearings are supposed to go in one way and one way only. Â*If any got turned upside down that can do that too. Â*Not positive. Â*haven't taken mine apart since last year but know i messed a couple up. Â*sometimes the anti-reverse doesn't engage at all on a hook set or when i'm snapping my rod to get unhung. Â*All of a sudden my reel will free spool so be very carefull. Â*If you didn't remove those inside roller bearings in that main cylinder thing, Â*then don't. I'll go take one apart i've been having problems with and dbl. check. and re-post if i find more out. P.s. i used to do reel repair but not since the first citica's and curado's came out.

That's why I just dip mine in the river and shake them around a little when they get noisey. They put oil in 'em at the factory didn't they?

Something is telling me my problem has to do with improper greasing/oiling. How should I oil/grease the roller clutch inner tube and roller clutch bearing on my curado??? I've read on some places that oiling this area is disastrous and will ruin the anti-reverse, while others say just put a drop of oil to keep it smooth? What do I do?? Also, do I oil the clutch tube... grease??? Right now I have those parts bone dry after I cleaned them. Thanks for your help.

Don't use grease, just oil and very sparingly.

Nah zook, I did reel repair back from 1990 to about '95. Â*Also built custom rods. Â*I do all my own reels but that is just cleaning and maintaining them. Â*There is no wizardry with reels. Just don't loose the little parts Â* ;D :-/. Â*I plan on sticking around. Â*If ya need any help withthing I'll try my best.
Hey Jigflipper, I Checked on one of my curados and I think got to be sure to put the post of the spool in the right notchs on the back of that pinion gear, That would be the only other thing I could see why all of a sudden the spool is sloppy....unless you didn't tight down the spool tension adjustment knob. or lost a spacer.

I would love to be a reel specialist. Im not so I break mine down to the major working areas. I only use HOT SAUCE. To the best of my knowledge this stuff penetrates areas that I dont dare go. Just cleaned and hotsauced all my reels and they are working better than new. 8)
