Brother... get you one of these:

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...=SearchResults

They make a pond prowler motorguide package:

http://waterandwoods.net/outlet/motorguide2.php

You'll be much happier and you can transport it with a couple bicycle wheels mounted to a 2X4 and some bungie cords....

Especially if you are just crossing the street...

My suggestion: Tell them to give you the 3 grand straight up, buy a 700 dollar kayak out of the BPS magazine and spend the rest feeding the monkey.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a kayak. I would go with a flat bottom jon boat with a paddle. That way you can take a friend with you if you ever wanted to.

Chip has got a good idea. But it is your money, so have fun with it.

Kayaks are way faster in the water if you only have a paddle. I've used both and there are advantages to each, but Kayaks are lighter and easier to paddle for sure. If he wants to take a friend for that type of money he can get a two man kayak. Or as someone said he could get a pond hopper type deal and a trolling motor.

hula that looks perfect. i would definetly go with that. at first when i saw the picture i was thinkin it wouldnt be able to go in shallow water cause of the rudders, but as i read on i noticed they have a lever to lift them. and it can hold 6 rods. unbelievable. i might just have to look into gettin myself one.

FLAMEZ
Â* Â* Check out the Coleman Crawdad boats at your local Target store. They will take a lot of abuse as they are made of high impact polyethylene. Coleman also builds a large assortment of small fishing boats and kayaks. Pull it up on web at www.coleman.com or key up Coleman boats.

Do they make a kayak that looks like a Gambler boat? Maybe black with flames over the nose cone and a 200 HP Mercury Verado bolted to the back of it ? No ? Well back to the drawing board. ;D P N J

Kayaks can be a lot of fun, especially if you add fishing in!

But before you buy one, consider the advantages that a canoe has over a kayak as well:

-You have more room for extra rod, tackle box, etc.
-(Ok, I am a little crazy) but you can stand up in them. Very useful for getting a special angle in for a cast and/or retrieve. Can also be useful for bringing in a fish that gets in the weeds.
-butt

Especially that stand up bit. I know that it is generally considered unsafe to stand up in a canoe, but I do it constantly on the water, and am yet to get injured or tip the canoe. As long as you have the balance.

But WTL is right... a nice canoe, when paddled correctly, can be very fast, but a nice kayak paddled correctly can be even faster!

I don't find a trolling motor neccessary for a canoe or kayak. However, an anchor can be VERY useful. Just find a dense object that weighs about 10 lbs that would make an appropriate anchor, tie a rope to it, tie the other end to your boat. You can go heavier with the anchor, but you don't want to wear yourself out getting it back out all the time. Also, unless you are facing 30+ mph winds, that 10 lb anchor will hold fine.

For my great lack of shore-fishing and bass boat fishing knowledge, I know a little about canoes and kayaks. I feel somewhat useful, LOL.

Good luck, either way, look for a good deal. Sometimes the more expensive things only look prettier, whether they actually "work" better or not.
