A long time
first went out looking for food, then it became an obsession.
Living on the water trying to be a pro is a huge commitment.
Your skin gets weathered, you never get to see your family, and then you realize that game fishing is now your job.
It really takes the fun out of it when you have so much competition.
I'd encourage anyone to try it and get in some local tournies and work your way up. It takes a lot of time on a home lake to get the basics mastered, then the next step is deciding what direction to go for some paychecks.
I'd recommend either bass federation or some local level competition, thats the best way to learn the ropes and see if you really like it.
Some weekends you may fish two days in the rain 8 hours at a time.

I have been seriously thinking about being serious. If I lose my job, I could withdraw my retirement funds and buy a used boat and truck and go on the tournament trail for a couple of weeks at least rpoviding I live in my truck and eat peanut butter & crackers and Moon pies. It would be great if Kevin won the tournaments ,I could justify losing everything I saved to him out of the top 50 bass fisherman on tour. ;D P N J
