Where do you live? How big is the body of water? How deep is it, and is it stained, muddy, or clear? Once we know this, we can help you out. BTW Welcome to the site.

I live in Illinois by Lake Sangchris , stained. I'd say it's about 8 to 10 thousand acres. Just fishing from the bank my boats not ready yet.

I've got some really good advice for you. Have fun and enjoy it!! Make it memorable for you and him both. I take my boy out all the time and he loves it. He is only 5 and gets bored really fast if we aren't slaying them, but it is worth the time together.

There isn't anything better than teaching a kid to fish. They are the future to this great sport.

Oh yeah, welcome to site and jump right on in. Just make sure you have some boots handy becuase it gets pretty deep in here sometimes. ;D

Welcome to the forum, buzzdog!

The water is probably going to be cold, so fish slow. If you give us some specifics we can point you in the right direction. What I mean is are you fishing in rocks?flooded timber? weeds? You get the idea. There are a couple of guys from Il here so I'm sure they can be more of a help to you than me being in South Texas ;D

Depending on how old your son is, and how much patiense both of you have, I would reccomend live bait for the outing. I rarely use live bait anymore, but since you haven't been fishing in so long, it's the best way to catch fish. If you want to try some artificials, then I would get some plastics worms, and some Lizards with some light bullet weights. And also a suspending jerk bait, and crawdad immitations. Those are the lures to use right now. If you are working them around cover, sometimes fast is better. But usually you will be much better working it as slow as you can.

Lizards
