Congrats, is that a white jig or spinnerbait, I really can't tell. That is one long fish, what was the weight? I've caught several in the 22"-23" that weighed 4-5.25lbs so I know the skinny ones are definately up north with us. That really is a Monster from Michigan.

Thanks Scott.... Just under 7 pounds and it was a strike King Bleeding Spinner with the RED Eyes. I always keep white and the chartruese models in my box. In both Sizes...

I'll be painting your Okee baits next week...

Chip

The STORY.........

I had been fishing all day in wind and clouds and I happened to switch to a Strike King Bleeding Bait Spinner and dropped it on her head in some lilly pads. Water boiled and all heck broke loose. I saw her as she shot deep and I spent a few minutes getting her up in fear she was going to break the line.

Anyway, she is out making new baby bass this spring because I "CPR" all my bass. I had here confirmed at a bait shop on the lake and then took her back to her hole and watched her slip back down into the deep.

Lizards,
Look at the conditions. Windy and cloudy. Are there any better conditions to throw a spinnerbait in?

Nick:

Risking a big fish breaking off of 6 pound monofilament....

There are many benefits when using a spinning rod. First, casting distance is very important. You cannot cast a 1/8 oz. spinner bait in the wind with a bait cast reel and be accurate with it. Second, is the accuracy of the cast. By learning to cast a spinning rod effectively, you can put a small lure in a tight spot with very little effort. The third advantage is fighting and landing the fish. Spinning reels are very good for playing a fish correctly. The backwind switch on most reels allows you to give the fish line at the critical time he needs it, such as a big surge at the boat. The medium action of the 7-ft. rod also allows you to guide the fish out of heavy cover without bending those small hooks out on a big fish. I use this same set up for small crank baits and jigs as well as jigheads and small worms. This set up also allows me to be able to skip small jigs and finesse worms way back beneath docks without the fear of breaking off fish.

Need I say more.....

Thanks

Chip

Try the bleeding gold shiner color, its my favorite spinnerbait. Great for huge gass in fl.

I'm not trying to stir trouble, that fish in the pic just doesn't look 26 1/4 inches to me. 26 1/4 inches for a fish is big for anywhere, if she had a gut it would have been 11 pounds. Well, Congrats Chip I'm sure you are telling the truth, sometimes pictures are worth less than 1000 words.

Its funny, I took a picture of my personal best, a 6 1/2 pounder, and the way the pic came out it looked like it weighed about 12 pounds. The point is, pictures sometimes lie. You should have held the fish a little closer to the camera, with the camera looking up at you and the fish - then it would have looked like a michigan state record.

I hear what your saying WTL, no offense taken. That is one reason I never hold a fish arm extended out towards the camera.

She was thin (for the length), but tail pinched on a metal measure put her right on the money at 26.25" I had her confirmed at a shop before releasing her. I needed a permitting witness to sign the state form.

True to my word here bro... thats why you see the Strike King Spinner in the photo and not one of my lures that was on a rod a couple feet away and could have been easily picked up and posed with.

I am paying quite a bit extra to have her reproduced because of the length and lighter weight. She was just under 7 pounds, and while thats not my pesonal best, its a VERY nice fish.

I respect your question..

Chip
