Default Flourescent Line

What is a good line to use for Night Fishing with a Black Light? Are there an braids that show up in the blacklight?

Thanks,
Leroy

Here is an exert from a paragragh [article] Flyrod wrote under another thread [See "The heat is on......." thread posted by none other than 1FASTLASER]. Fly rod mentions some other techniques, so I'll let him handle this post, and respond with good advice whenever he sees it.

"Lines...Well, since the sensitivity of braid is even more of a gift at night, at least for soft plastics, one generally has to accept the trade-off; Up 'til now, there were no "Glow" braids. Good news! Stren has introduced a new braid that WILL fluoresce in both daylight and under UV. I'm going to test some soon and will report on it. I will STILL use a pure fluoro leader with it during daylight hours in order to maintain invisibility, but since it does NOT fluoresce under water I may run without the leader should the opportunity to night fish arise.
Remember too that fluorocarbon lines do NOT fluoresce under UV. This can be a hassle at night but I do have a solution. I can explain if anyone so requests."

Look for the color to be clear/blue flourescent-that will show up like a well rope in a blacklight.

Stren, Trilene, and now Powerpro all make flourescent line. Along with many others I'm sure. Under Black lights at night is is very, very very KEWL!!!!. It looks almost like a rope. IMO, black lights and Floruescent line are a must for night fishing.

Well, OK, but only because my public demands it.

A few, very few, years ago I received a rude shock when I night-fished using P-line FloroClear for the first time; Ditto for braid...even under UV lighting.
Neither would fluoresce. Soooo...
Rather than spool my soft plastics rigs with plain mono and give up the superior aspects of braid or FloroClear, I hit upon a semi-(but workable)solution. As follows...
From each reel containing either braid or F'Clear I stripped off a normal cast's worth of line. Then, every few turns on the retrieve, I paused, filled an eyedropper with Spike-It(TM) Chartreuse Garlic tail DYE (NOT TAIL "DIP"!!! NO! NOOOOOO TAAAAAIIIILLLLLL DIIIIIIIIIIP!!!!! It's liquid bubble gum, and will gum up the line but you don't even get a baseball trading card with it!) and dribbled it onto the line. I then waited a sec or two, made maybe another three turns of the handle, repeated the "treatment", and so on until I had maybe ten to twelve feet of UNdyed F'clear remaining (so I needn't worry about the lil' fishies seeing it in daylight,) for a few reties. However, I dyed the braid all the way to the bitter end, then added the P-Line CFX leaders.
If you think the above sounds a bit tedious, well, now hear this: For each reel I repeated the process TWICE more, allowing the dye to dry for a few hours 'tween treatments. NOTE: I did NOT dye the pure fluorocarbon leaders attached to the braids. I did NOT dye P-Line CX mono, since that fluoresces nicely but I did add some to P-Line CXX mono (the green ExtraStrong mono.)These two lines are not used for anything but topwater applications so no problem there.
A few nights later, circa 2200 hrs, we slowed to a stop on Canyon Lake, deployed the TM, and ignited the Nucli-Eye(TM) in "UV Only" mode. I took up a rod and fired one off into the darkness...Eureka! The hand-dyed lines WERE plainly visible, though not so much as a plain hi-vis mono might be.
In other words, "Problem solved!".
Since then, I've switched to TUFline Yellow braid, also hand-dyed chartreuse, and it's even more visible under UV than the dyed green stuff.
The treatment should be repeated every now and then, but will NOT harm the lines. Remember to leave some of the fluoro line undyed to allow for a few reties. In fact, should you forget to do so, or run out of undyed line the end, you can take an old rag, dip it in household bleach, pinch the line in the rag, and strip it through a few times. This will fade the dye enough to alleviate any visibility issues re the last few feet of line.
Of course, you can now easily understand why I'm in the hope that the new Stren Microfuse Hi-Vis braid will have sufficient good casting and handling qualities to replace my TUF and Spectrex on certain rigs.

Most clear, or blue monos will be visible under UV light. Other than the one FlyRod mention in previous thread, I have never heard of a braid that does this. I don' do a lot of night fishing, but i will stay out after it gets dark for about 30 mins to an hour depending on how the fishing in. Like last night, I had three... well... long-distance catch and releases. anyways, they were all ona jig with a ZOOM ultravibe trailer. I though I had a bite so I held still for a sec but I couldn't see my Low Vis green line to see if it was doing anything, when I get my new rod and reel for jigging, I'm gonna spool it with PP hi vis yellow so I can see it.
