Re: the basics
do you live by gary IN? Â*cause if you do, I pity you. Â*Anyways I use to live in Chicago so I know a little about fishing up there. Â*If you're just fishing ponds and stuff like that you'd wanna stick with stuff like beetlespins just fishing them along the shoreline. Â*go to this site and read.

Re: the basics
1. Bass typically live in the water.
2. Bass like to eat. It helps them survive and live. 3. In order to eat, they attack food, or what they think is food. 4. With live bait, dead bait, or a lure, you take advantage of their natural instinct to eat, and then you hook them and reel them up to the boat. I think that covers most of it... ;D |

Re: the basics
Welcome to the forum, monster!
There are a couple of guys here from Indiana that can give you some specifics from your area. Â*That link Hula posted is a real good site. Â*As to specifics, for ponds especially this time of year I love to throw soft plastics, especially soft jerkbaits like a Zoom Super Fluke: or a Senko-type bait: I fish then weightless and rigged weedless: Except I keep the point of the hook buried in the plastic rather that "texposed" like the image shows. For colors I'd go with more natural colors like watermelonm seed, watermelon red flake, green pumpkin, junebug, etc. I fish them by casting them out, let them settle, and work them with soft twitches of the rod tip. Â* Spinnerbaits are also a good choice this time of year since we are moving into the Fall and fish are going to start feeding for the winter. Hoipe this helps, and don't hesitate to ask if you are wondering about anything-when it comes to fishing the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked ;D |

Re: the basics
Welcome Monster, The great thing about bass fishing is that you can be very basic or go all out on the hobby.I use 4 lures all season here in NY state. The jig and pig did 95% of the fishing with a zara spook jr at morning and evenings or overcast days, a Rick Clunn trickster spinnerbait and a 10 " culprit worm in crawdad color.Everything else sits not being used but the tubes and lake fork baits are coming out soon for the smallmouth bite should be coming shallow. The trailer I really like is the smaller Yum chunk.A Zoom lil critter craw is a good choice also with or without a jig.I hope this helps. ;D P N J

Re: the basics
I have never really understood why anyone thinks a bass or any other kind if fish, is different just because it happens to be in a different body of water. A bass, is a bass, is a bass. It's the same animal in a big lake, a small lake, a river, or anywhere you're going to find him. The same baits and techniques you'd use anywhere under the same conditons will work anywhere.

Re: the basics
Crown-up there the power plant lakes don't freeze so they are one of the few places they can fish when everything gets covered with that strange white stuff-I think they call it "snow". They show it on the news every now and then ;D

Re: the basics
Crankbait humps and bumps till your arms ache. Then do it some more. Snow?? Don't see any snow here in the winter time. Just way up on top of the local mountains when it gets really cold. Like 28 degrees. Not much minus temps here.
