I use a Minn-Kota All Terrain(40 lb. thrust).It'll put you back $280- $300 at Wal-Mart,but it's well worth it.Smoothest foot-control I've ever tried.

45 pound thrust or lots more will get ya through a windy day...keep in mind that any trolling motor means the added expense of battery, the charger, and lookin' out for those pesky rocks that like to chew up the prop blades

I have a 16' aluminum boat completely loaded with me my stuff and two others guys Â*I've fished in windy conditions with the same load. Â*I have a 36lb thrust Motorguide, and have yet to run out of juice with a good Everstart Battery. Â*The Battery is the biggest issue. Â*Don't go cheap, and get a Trolling Battery, preferrably a enclosed gel cell. Â*They are designed specifically for this application. Â*I also reccomend a GOOD charger. Â*You could get away with less pounds of thrust, just depends on how fast you want to move. Â*I'm not a KVD kind of fisherman so the lbs of thrust doesn't do much for me except in rare occasions. Â*I want long life, not quick speeds. Â*That's what the outboard is for. Â*Especially with a 14 boat.

I forgot, also the # of blades can also make a huge difference on the battery drain.
