topwaters
There are several kinds of topwater lures: buzzbaits, poppers, prop baits, spooks, and crawling baits. When the bass arew schooling near the surface and when there is some chop to the water, I'll go with a popper to create the most action. When the water is dead still, I'll go with a spook because of its subtle action across the top of the water. ANd when I'm fishing around different pieces of structure and cover when the bass are hitting topwater, but not necessarily schooling, I'll go with a crawling bait like a jitterbug or a prop bait like a torpedo. When do you all think that each different kind of topwater becomes better to use than others, and why?

Re: topwaters
poppers work better in flat water condition's buzzer's and prop baits work better with some chop to the water. crawling baits seem to work better after the bass has seen every popper on the market about june.

Re: topwaters
I like both a popper and a prop bait like a torpedo in calm, and in choppy water I really like a prop bait-had my best day ever ona tiny torpedo in choppy water- or walk the dog type bait. Around over-up close to it I also like a buzzbait.

Re: topwaters
I prefer spooks or poppers in calm water, big prop baits in windy conditions, and buzzbaits around wood or patches of weeds that grow on or close to the surface.

Re: topwaters
I toss a buzzbait anytime chop or no chop and a spook when it's dead flat. There is something about that surface explosion that I love.

Re: topwaters
Buzzbait = Anytime
Jitterbug = Anytime Poppers = Calm water Prop = Choppy If it's warm enough, I'll fish topwater all day. I might keep swithching, but there's nothing better than topwater SLAMS by a Bass ;D And you can catch them in both choppy and calm water, over deep water, and in shallows. I fish a Lizard on top of moss, just about all day long in the summer. ANYWHERE! Lizards |

Re: topwaters
And when you encounter boat docks or floating vegetation don't forget to throw a weedless frog or rat .
