Default crankbaits

I have been fishing for a few years now mostly from the shoreline due to the lack of a boat: However my father and I have recently bought a boat and I have been doing as much fishing as possible. A problem that I have come across is fishing crankbaits. I see all these pros fishing them with great success and I dont know if I am doing something wrong... :-/. Any advice would be great

gf, the key to crankbaits is contact. You want them to hit things-wood, rocks, the bottom, etc. When they bounce off something and make an erratic jump or move it can trigger some hard strikes. If you are fishing a mud bottom choose a bait that runs deeper than the water you are fishing so it will dig into the bottom and kick up a mud trail like a crawfish. You may get hung up, but if you don't get snagged occasionally you ain't fishing where the fish are ;D

change your retrieve speeds too, sometimes if you just burn them through the water the rattles will drive a fish nuts

Reb and BB are right .You've gotta throw at cover and make contact to get a bite.Varying the speed and "killing" the bait are also proven techniques.I fish it a lot in open water as a search bait.Vary the way you reel it in and when you catch one remember how you worked it it .Keep doing it that way.
