also can sumone explain the gear ratio thing to me like wats good wats bad and wat it means?

also wats the difference in a baitcast and a spincast cause ive heard if ive always used a spincast that if i buy a baitcast it would be hard for me to cast good can sumone tell wat i would be better off getting

please feel free to recommend reels in the $40 range thanks

Trevor, Gear ratio and spool diameter determines the line retreive 4:1 ratio is the line will wrap around the spool 4 times per every complete turn of the handle. The diameter of the spool will determine how much line that is and also the line diameter will change the retrieve length of the line so it is deceiving sometimes.I would reccomend buying a spinning reel instead, they cast trouble free for the most part and they have faster line retrieve because of the spool design.I hope this helps. I have 2 of the Diawa's. They aren't gonna last a long time, but they will work just fine. I would go with the Highest gear ratio, and max line capacity available if using for Bass Fishing.

Shimano makes a few $40 Spining reels, they are pretty decent to. Won't last forever, but unless you are kicking out big bucks, none of the others will either.

Trevor, To stay under the $40.00 mark is difficult to buy anything to last very long, however, I have a couple of these reels and they are holding up pretty well, I don't use alot of spinning reels anymore.I use these to bait fish for lake trout, and they have had some big fish on them, alot bigger than the bass will weigh in my area. I hope this helps you, P N J http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse

Actually if going with a spincaster, my choice would be a Rhino sold at Walmart. Not sure if BPS or Cabela's sells them.
