Default New to the site

Hello! New to the website. I been fishing for a long time but just recently started getting real hooked on lake fishing. I love going after largemouth bass. This site has been full of useful info, so I guess I should thank you all for posting!

I rencently started using plastic worms and I've had decent luck with them. ( I just put in an order for some senkos after reading about 'em, and I got some scum frogs coming as well.)

I have a question though....how do you know what colors to use?...and when to use them? I know there's a lot of things that determine what the best colors are.....but can you guys just give me a general idea?

Btw- I'm in southern California. Weather here has been overcast for the past few days. I'll be going to a lake not too far from me this coming saturday. (Castaic Lake -http://www.castaiclake.com ) I'll be there pretty much all day starting from 6AM. Assuming the water is relatively clear and the weather remains calm, what is the best thing to throw out there first?

Thanks in Advance!

Welcome to the forum!

I use a general "rule of thumb"-In clear water I use more natural colors and in stained water I'll use colors that are a little brighter, like adding chartreuse. In muddy water it depends on the light-bright colors when it is sunny but darker colors when it is cloudy. There are a lot of different theories on what colors when, but this has worked well for me.

Good luck on Castaic-I've seen pictures of some real monsters out of that lake. I'd try a soft jerkbait like a Zoom Super Fluke or a Senko-type bait.

Thanks for the welcome!

Rebbasser - Thanks, I been thinking for a while about what colors I should be using...now I have a better idea of what colors I should be trying out first depending on the conditions. Thank you!

Bassfisher02 - I know what you mean. It's just that sometimes I'll use everything in my tackle box, I'll move from spot to spot and still nothing. Maybe I should start using crack as bait like Hank from King of the Hill....LOL
