Muddy Lake

I live in new jersey and like to fish a lake about a mile long and a 1/4 mile wide. you can't even see down about a foot. the deepest point is about 20 feet. there is alot of lilly pads and a couple goog points. there are some good fish in there. the biggest fish that i caught was a 27'' 5 pound picerol. there are some good bass in there. the biggest bass i caught there was about three pounds, but im sure there are bigger ones there. i was wondering if you guys can give me any tips to catch the really big ones.

Have the bass spawned yet? Many lures can be used. Muddy water favorites are buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, wide wobbling crankbats, lizards, and jigs. When selecting a spinnerbait choose one with colorado blades. They put off more vibrations making them good for muddy water. Chartreuse is a good choice for muddy water.

Usually on muddy waters the fish hold real tight to cover until the water clears up.
I'd try bright orange and yellow, any lure ya want

My favorite muddy water bait is a spinnerbait with a big, single Colorado blade. Puts out a lot more vibration than a double willow or tamdem setup and is easier for the fish to find in low visibility.

I bet a all black worm would do the trick to if you concentrated on hitting downed trees and timbers...

yeah, i use a chartruse and green crankbait, black and red tailed berkly worms, brown minnows and weedless hooked jigs. some other stuff too. i tried the buzz bait, it got one bite, couldn't hook him and that was it. i get a good amount of fish, just not the five pounder i have been searching for. i fish in the weeds and around the beaver dams(where they usually are) but i haven't gotten the big bass. the pickerel was pretty sweet though. it was laying in the dam. i really don't know if they are spawning yet.

Keep pluggin away and someday those bigger fish will strike..its bound to happen if ya stick with it...

thanks for the tips. yeah i live in sparta nj in nw jersey. it is a small lake by my house near lake hopatcong. it is in my neighborhood. if your looking for a good place to fish try echolake resevoir in west milford. i have caught some good fish in there. they have some nice largemouth and other good fish. what i really like there are the striper hybrids. they put up great fights.
