Default Deeply hooked fish

Saw this on another site-haven't tried it yet but a number of folks swear by it-looks like a great way to unhook a deeply hooked bass:

Reb,

Thanks for sharing. For some reason I have a problem with this at my buddy's pond. The bass really inhale lures and hooks.

Thanks Reb. Anytime a fisherman uses a Scent or
Attractant, like Fish Formula, the fish will often take it very deep. I have had this problem numerous times. The bass literally inhale the treated plastics so deep you can barely see the hook. Glad to know how to get the hook out.

Thanks

Charles

i have to agree with bb on this i have caught several bass that were dinks and had more than my hook in them. if i do catch a short fish or any fish for that matter deep. i always take the time to remove the plastic bait. even if the hook is deeply hung. if i can i will cut my hook or any other hook i find in the fish. nothing pisses me off faster than catching a bass that has a foot of line-not mine -hanging from his mouth with a hook and plastic bait still inbedded in his mouth. it is bad enough to leave a hook in a fish -i have had to do this before- but i always remove the plastic bait and cut the line at the hook eye.

I would like to add, that the process or procedure for removing deeply imbedded hooks does work, and I have used it plenty of times. I urge the new comers to this procedure to make a judgement call and decide whether or not is it worth the stress it puts on the bass. Some of these embedded hooks will come out alot easier than others, depending on which style of hook you are using and the size of the bass.
The bigger bass will provide more room to "operate" and this procedure usually works well. The smaller bass however, will sometimes not fair well if this procedure is tried. Sometimes you will want to just cut the line off and toss the fish back in as quickly as possible. I thank you for remembering this and the bass will thank you even more....

I would like to add that sometimes on smaller bass and bigger ones that are really hooked good that the best that you can do is get the bend of the hook pointing up. At this point you need to take a pliers to get ahold of the bend to pull the hook out. In these situations it helps if you have a partner who can help you out because between holding the fish and positioning the hook it's almost impossible to try and handle a pliers at the same time. A couple of times I have had a hard enough time that I actually put the fish back in the water to revive it before proceeding again. At this point every bass I have done this to has swam off under its own power. Whether it survived long term I don't know. My personal preference is to make sure I get the hook out.

SIGH!

I put this up every six months or so, just to try to help folks out. I have yet to hear of anyone using or buying this tool. It's friggin .79 cents folks, and if you deep gut hook a bass, I promise this will remove it with no damage that wasn't already done. Unfortunately the direct link isn't wokring, but the item is on the right side of the page(NOT WHAT IS SHOWN AS THE MAIN ITEM). It's called a fish hook disgorger. Use it and save some bass, it's quick and simple.

It just has a notch in the plastic tip that slides onto the hook and you rotate it so it grabs the hook and you can push and pull without worrying about hooking yourself. The tool doesn't take up a lot of room in your tackle box either.

I still have the first one I bought 12 years ago, and the one that was in my grandpa's tacklebox. They work very effectively, but I've only needed it six or seven times since I got it.

The search tool is a fabulous thing. Took me about 30 seconds to find it. Luckily I guessed right on the title.

I'll have to check that tool out.

Why does it say rich, and people respond to reb? Luckily, in my few "bad" fishing experiences, deep hooked bass havent been a problem.

Its because when they changed over to the new forum (this one) some of the files got crossed up and the wrong name stuck with the messages. I wondered the same thing when i first looked through the old threads
