and then..those pissy water skiers..
bleh,
here its 58 water temp and we already had our butt smacked by waves from skiers getting to close on a huge lake not only does it turn the bank muddy, but you have to endure thier stereo playing kidd rock instead of hearing the shad splash and the occasional bird singing The only peace ya can get on the water is M-F mid morning lol those basterds! |

I know exactly what you mean. Â*Water skiers have brought me several fishless days. Especially since I'm in a canoe.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
well we fished the north end where the no idle zone was and also where the 2 creeks come together to feed the lake, and I also figured that the water temp would be warmer than going 15 miles south to deep water and the dam.
But no fish even on the graph so after fishing huge rocks in warm water we hit all the points in deeper water, but even later in the day the water temp hit 60. Still no fish, graphed some here and there, I guess bottom line, the fishermen were ready to play but the bass weren't cooperating eh? |

JB, you ain't alone. For some reason the skiers and lake lice love to torment us fishermen. Fortunately the lakes I fish have a lot of flooded timber, and the water gnats avoid places like that.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
Just by one of them musky lures, something a bit like this...
And cast it within about 10 ft of the waterskiers every time they pass by. No more problems. ;D |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
Probably the best lake near Rebbasser and me is filled with flooded timber, like he said. The other thing it has going for it is alligators. Big ones. For some reason you just don't see skiers or water fleas out there. Go figure.

You are right, Nitro-the only time I have seen a jet ski on that lake was last week, and they were being driven by the parks and Wildlife folks. There are definitely some big gators in that lake.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
i had a problem with a boat once, i was shore fishin and a boat kept passin not more then 20' in front of me really fast where i was fishin. then they decided to stop and start swimming literally right where i was fishin. so i took my lure and casted it to there boat, it hit the boat, and they looked at me like i was crazy, then moved, they didnt bother me any more, the look on their faces was so funny.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
We (all fisherman) should be able to carry paintball
guns to cure any problems to arise and or cause waves... ;D : So other fisherman can see a skier has been tagged and warned...then we swarm.....Okay Im dreaming now...have a great day Denny |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
I made peace with waterskiers and jet skiers long ago. They're doing the same thing I'm doing. Enjoying a day on the lake. Most of their poor behavior is simply "don't know any better", and the ones who do are just buttheads.
I refuse to let someone else control rather I have a good day or not. |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
You may notice that only a small portion of water skiers/jet skiers are inconsiderate of others. I've noticed the fact that about 1 out of 20 are this way.
Unfortunately we think that all are like this. Please note that I don't water ski or jet ski. Just an observation that I've made. |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
yeah maybe you should start giving leasons on proper ski boat handling -start on badin and work north- i have several large chips in my gel coat where a crazed female-go figure-almost set my bass boat on top of a dock.she was pulling a tube -with kids-and missed me by inches at full throttle.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers
Maybe it's just me, but wake boarders just give me something else to target. Last week I fished all morning without as much as one bite then about 2:00 p.m. the wake boarders worked up a nice mud line around an island with some fantastic structure. We moved in and I senko'ed up a nice limit with a six lb. kicker and made it back just before 3:00 p.m. brimming with the satisfaction that I didn't give up and persevered under what seemed like an impossible situation.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
you gotta find them lakes where skiers are not permitted. like lake casitas in california. i know how u feel, last year, when my dad and i were fishing, my pops hooked into a bass pulled it up and then the next thing u know like 5 jet skiers were all around our boat. all saying " yeah man look at the catfish he just caught, nice" fool it was a damn bass. frickin idiots.

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
You just got to learn to take advantage of water skiers and jet skiers.
Wave action is a big turn on for bass. I've won several tournaments because there were boat wakes beating up into pad fieds, and knocking forage loose, or as someone else said a couple of posts up, they stir up a mudline that bass and other predator fish will use as an ambush point. I have actually considered flagging down a water skier and paying them ten bucks to ride back and forth across a point every few minutes. Think POSITIVE! |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
I have had one positive experience from a wake like you described, a woman zoomed by us on Brookeville lake ind, and her wake exposed a huge boulder near a pt I was working, I threw behind it and landed a nice bass..other than that I have no use for them if they cut to close to the boat when they have the entire lake to play on..its always bad near a ramp to, comming in to get passengers or party whatever...

what an ignorant person. i have never heard of a bass fisherman, or any fisherman for that matter messing with a recreational boater, its the boaters who messes with us. |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
you cant lay all the blame on the jetskiers and other recreational boaters. no fisherman likes other boats spooking all the fish. but ive been fishing alot of times where tournament guys fly by me in a cove doing 60 or 70. alot of these guys want to fish a spot your in cause they did good the day before or whatever reason. everyone has the same right to be on the water. the problem is etiquette. most people dont have any.
just one more thing, i hate jetskis for my own reasons but if your fishing in the middle of the lake you have to expect a little wake. people cant slow down everytime they pass a boat somewhere on the water. ****ing whiners. |

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
masterbaiter, if you are in the middle of the water, then every one expects that, but thats not the problem, its when you are fishing in a small area on a huge lake, and a waterskier flies 20 feet from you. thats not right, they have the whole lake. f**king idiot

Re: and then..those pissy water skiers..
i really don't have to much of a problem with jet ski's -as annoying as they are-ski boats driving by arrogant pricks that believe they own the lake. and have very little common sense. this last summer some genius decided to launch a 40 foot fountain off shore boat. on a 5400 acre lake-badin-this boat will run 125 with twin v-8's i saw this boat running flat out acrossed the lake at midnight with out lights. this type boat rolls up a 12 foot wave at this speed. i saw the boat in the moon light and got turned into the wave. spoke with a couple of boats later that night one got flooded by the wave. it was a large ranger bass boat -they were cat fishing like my self.
