Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
I myself use them, but I'm not sure.

Welcome to the forum!
The best? Like most other things in fishing, "best" is a relative term, depending on who you ask. I use them, but I also use Owner anf TruTurn just to name a couple. |

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
Exactly what would you like them to do for you that they don't do now?

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
I asume by the best you mean the sharpest? If that's so, you can't go wrong with Gamakatsu, VMC, Owner, or Daiichi.

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
I do not think Gamakatsu hooks are the best. I prefer not to buy them at all anymore, but there was a time I used the 1/0 straight shanked worm hooks. I think my favorite hook of all time is the Eagle Claw HP hook for tube baits. ;D P N J

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
It's one of a number of good brands. I like Eagle Claws or VMCs just as well.

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
gamakastu is realy sharp and realy strong with little give to them do to the high carbon steel used this leads to more hook breaks if u hit a log that aint moving and ur line wont break.
eagle claw.... were to begin used to love em not ne more they are sharp out of the pack but dont stay that way long tip breaks easy or rolls they bend way to easy ive hooked fish and went to lift up into boat and the hook bend ... fish falls off gone. Mustad has a awsome tip stays sharp realy strong dont have much give so its close to the gama but for my wide baits i go with gama 2/0-3/0 wide gape hooks smaller worms a 3/0 reg offset all i fish with is plastics wither texas wieghtless or jerk bait style with a top waters like buzzes and plugs thrown in thats all i catch fish with and ive tried many hooks i prefer the gamas for plastics eagle claw circle hooks for live bait or salt water |

Re: Is Gamakatsu the BEST?
They make good hooks, I think the absolute sharpest I've seen are Daiichi, but they are 2 bucks more for a pack of 5. Mustads are very solid hooks as well and Matzui makes a good value hook (like $1.50 for a pack of 5). Owners are sharp but I don't like the widegap hooks they make. VMCs are really sharp but I havent found them in my area. I just don't like Eagle Claw for some reason, but it might just be the association with Bill Dance.
