Default done with BASS PRO SHOPS!

i will never, ever, ever again buy anything from BASS PRO SHOPS AGAIN!i bought a minnkota batt.charger from the catalog...long story short..it went bad..happened to be going to BASS PRO SHOPS in harrisburg,pa. so i took the charger with me.they gave me a credit and i bought an XPS charger...no problem..well the XPS charger goes bad and i end up with barely enough power to finish a tourney today because the charger didn't work last nitght(thanks a lot BASS PRO SHOPS)..ok,so i call BASS PRO SHOPS today the catalog store which would be the MAIN BASS PRO SHOP in springfield,,,get a customer DISSERVICE rep.explain the problem..get this...he says i have to take it back to harrisburg(almost 3hrs away)..i said you gotta be kidding me..i said to look in my records and just see all the CRAP i bought from you..i told him he better help me or i'll never buy from them again..then i was about to tell him i'm in 2 bass clubs and i would guarantee none of those guys would buy from BASS PRO SHOPS again....HE HUNG UP ON ME!!!!!
what the f***!!
so i call back again and i get a guy that explains about their policy of not returning stuff to them if it was purchased in one of their stores...HUH!!!.
let me see.....i can take something i bought from the catalog to a BASS PRO SHOPS store for return, but i can't take something i bought in one of their stores back to the MAIN BASS PRO SHOPS!!!
what the f***!!!!
i know i was just talking to one of the slugs that has the misfortune of working for them, but he was an ok guy,it wasn't his fault.
anyway,i swear i will never buy anything from them again!
so BASS PRO SHOPS has a really assinine policy on returns..
(jump down off the soap box, stamp my feet and kick the box)....
next..............

Wow...I am surprised to hear that. I have had nothing but good luck and great service dealing with BPS. I will pay a little more attention from here on out though.

In many respects I feel that Bass Pro has become too commercialized. Its kinda like Disney, they could care less whether or not they have your personal business, cause they're gonna get plenty from everyone else anyway. If they're starting to BS you, there is absolutely no reason that you should keep giving them your business when there are plenty of places just as good to get your fishing gear.

I believe before I wrote off the entire company, I would call and ask for a district manager or area supervisor and see if they could solve my problem as upposed to talking to a flunkee on the phone. I too run a business and my employees dont always say the right things. Just a thought, BPS is a large company and I bet they would be willing to take care of you if you contacted someone with the ability to do so. I so far have had great luck with BPS maybe i was just lucky. Scott R

I ordered some line through the catalog at the store because the store didnt carry that item, this way i didnt have to pay shipping. well anyways about a month later i havent got the phone call that it has come in and call them and the guy on the phone is a total Ahole, so i go to the store to talk to him personally and he is a Ahole in person and finds someone else to help me, well they cant even find the paperwork that we filled out when I ordered. so i left and let them know that i was not happy and went to the bass pro website and left a not-so-nice message about what happened. Next day i get a phone call from the main office and they apologized and the line was sent next day to the store and i went to pick it up and the store manager came down and he was a very nice guy and apologized and gave me the $30 worth of line for free and a $25 gift certificate. Their stores are nothing but tourist traps, the people that work there dont know a thing about fishing/hunting or whatever. I'm about done with them myself.

Tom, cool down and follow bassin_socal's advice. What were you expecting if you returned it to Missouri? Exchange? Credit? If you were willing to ship it to Missouri, can you ship it to Harrisburg?

I can understand you're angry, but as a (presumably) serious angler, can you really meet your needs without ever buying from BPS again?

i could have ordered from the catalog on line sat.nite and had them overnight it.couldn't do that with harrisburg, they were closed.
i'm a bassaholic, what do you expect?i fish a lot of tourneys and pay good money for stuff that i expect to work when i need it.and if it doesn't then i expect immediate service.especially when i spend as much as i do with them.
and no i don't need them.
i was a parts mgr for 16 years.my customers were always number one.i bent over backwards for my customers,i expect that same kind of service from places i buy from.
do they think we're only here to give them our hard earned money...i don't think so..
we need a new soap box.this one is worn out. ;D

Tell it like it is Tom. ;D I personally hate the bass pro shop here in NY state. I end up ordering the things I like to fish. The stupid store caters to lake trout/salmon & catfishing, not very much good Bass tackle, just alot of things you settle for to buy, but not what you wanted to see at the store compared to the catalogs line of products.Every time I go there, I put in the suggestion box what items I would like to see in the store and not one thing has been stocked yet. I even submitted a questionare with my freinds name, who works there and it went unnoticed. I think they should be aware of the items that people are ordering online by the headquarters and start stocking some of it to see ho it sells and get rid of the crap that isn't selling. ;D P N J

I'd have hung up on you too if you'd talked to me like that. Â*

Yelling, screaming, and threatening the person you're talking to does nothing but make you look like an idiot, and makes the other person dig their heels in that much more. Â*When you encounter a problem like this you just say "Let me speak to your supervisor", and don't take no for an answer. Â*Keep saying "Let me speak to YOUR supervisor" until you get somone who will tell you what you want to hear. Â*There is a level where that person is empowered to go around the rules. Â*The person you talked to was not at that level. Â*

It's that simple people. Â*You probaly can't make every call where you work, why do think that the first person you talk to anywhere else can?

By the way. Did you think to check your batteries? You might have bad batteries, rather than bad chargers.

i didn't yell at the guy..or scream as the rep was decent with me up till he hung up.,i myself have been through customers getting loud with me,but i never hung up on them.i would have been fired for that...i was very courteous ..yes i did check the batteries, even though they are new.it is definitely the charger.
read my post.i didn't even get a chance to tell him about my fellow club members.
doesn't matter, they don't need my business.there's plenty of others that will buy from them.

I'm with you Tom! It shouldn't take a district manager to say"yeah just send it back with receipt" If you buy it from BPS store or catalog, you should be able to return it store or catalog! I haven't bought from Bass Pro Shop in years, and I have plenty of gear- plenty of places out there to buy gear that'll be alot more appreciative of the business.

PNJ, I haven't yet had any great desire to make the hour and one-half drive there, and after reading your post, I can't say my desire has increased. Very disappointing. I would have thought that they'd have most of the stuff in the catalog.

Marty, I would rather go to Gander Mountain in Rochester. Its the same amount of time for me either way. I guess I will be ordering online. I just wish Bass pro had half of whats in the catalog, so you can see it first before buying it from a catalog. They do have the Mizmo tubes but who is going to drive an 1hr.15 min. one way when I can buy them at Walmart 20 minutes from home .020 a pack cheaper than Bass pro shop ?I have not bought anything in the last 4 trips, I just go to visit with my freind because he is always working there. :-/ P N J

I was going to make a trip out to Harrisburg. It is the closest BPS to Pitts. But I guess I'll just go to Cabelas in WV. It's only about an hour drive as opposed to 4 1/2. Seems like most everybody agrees Cabelas has just as much as BPS. Not to mention there is a store about an hour away that is owned by the guy who owns 84 Lumber. It is like a small Cabelas. They have a mounted animals and fish tanks also. The first time i was there they had senkos on sale for 25% off. I should have stocked up but was just new to bass fishing. We also have Dick's, Gander Mt. and don't forget wally world. There are a few local rod and tackle shops around here to.

WOW! I must honestly say that the Orlando BPS has been nothing but great to me. The handful of guys I deal with are knowledgeable and courteous. They ALWAYS escort me to a spot if I cant find something. They have given me rods and reels when something goes wrong. When one of my rod/reel combos had a problem the manager not only helped me personally, he prorated a 3 y/o combo and charged me 25.00 for a brand new one. I have the same helpful employees when Im dealing with hunting equipment also. Minus a few items I can't get there I swear by BPS for 95% of all my equipment for hunt/fish. 8) PS.- No I dont work there.

Guys, all those big retail outlets are the same. It's a business. Cabella's, BPS, and any other I've been to or heard abouts has all the same crap going on. It doesn't matter what business you are dealing with there is always a chance your going to have to deal with a beligerant little weenie. Before any conversation takes place, get the reps. name that way if they are a jerk then you can do something about it. The other thing is BPS didn't manufacture the product they just market it. Sure they probably buy deffective stuff or "factory seconds" or "rebuilds" or "remanufactured" products because they are cheap and the profit margin is higher. But they don't know something is going to be a total piece of crap. But yes i can completely never buy from BPS or Cabella's and get all the stuff I want or need for no more money than I would spend at either of them. I don't buy from either because the companies are cheap and have a typical corporate mentallity (or however that is spelled). Good luck on resolving your problems with them.

bass tech you hit that one on the head. to these large retail stores all you the customer is, is a number. be it walmart or bps. if you go to a mom and pop tackle store many know you by name. and that if you spend money in there regularly-and who don't-they will treat you as right as they can. basicly cause they know you are paying for there light bill.
