What advantage Circle/Octo Hook?

What are your feelings about Octopus hooks and circle hooks? Aren't they essentially the same thing? I've never used them, but in another post they were recommended for someone who was missing hook ups. Maybe they would help younger anglers (my 6 year old daughter). just looking for input. Right now we use Gammies EWG.

the Octopus hook has a straight barb, which requires a more snapping hook set. When using light line and fishing deep water, that could equal more lost fish. The circle hooks have a bend in them just after the barb. The proper way to set the hook with these is to reel and put tension on the line in a smooth easy lifting of the rod. Not a common hook set, but definately allows you to hook bigger fish then the line is rated for.

I mainly use the circle hooks for drop shotting, and I'd recommend them to anyone else for this rig, especially over the octopus hooks. If you're trying to get your daughter into bass fishing, the drop shot rig is very easy to use. Just pick her up some 4-1/2" Roboworms and she'll be catching dinks til your thumbs bleed.

Like others said, circle hooks pretty much set themselves. Also, you dont have to worry about deep hooks or gut hooks... For some reason the circle hook will almost always hook into the fish in the same place, the corner of its mouth. My stepdad uses them on his live pinfish rods for saltwater fishing.

I use octopus hooks for W-Riggin senko's and big circle hooks for catfishing, also in place of octo hooks on senko's I'll use Gamakatsu weedless finesse hooks when I'm fishing cover.
