Single axle vs. double axle?

I currently pull my Stratos 285 Pro XL, all over the state of NC on a Stratos Trail single axle. At several tournaments, other guys have told me I am crazy for pulling my rig long distances on a single axle trailor? Other than if I get a flat, I have to stop immediately, am I hurting my hull or something?

Not at all. Tell 'em to take a hike. The trailer you have was made for that boat. There ain't nothing wrong with it.

Personally I wouldn't have a double axel trailer under a bass boat. I just don't like the way they look.

Thanks Cajun, I figured it was just another way to spend extra cash on an already expensive as hell hobby. I never had a problem with my single, and all the new rigs are commming with double axles, (probably helps the dealership get the $40,000.00 they ask now). Thanks for the help, I just wanted to make sure I am not hurting my rig. -Tight Lines

Well, tandom axle trailers have there advantages they do trailer down the road allot better than single axle trailers. The only problem with them is you can not move your boat and trailer around by hand once you un hook from the tow rig. I have had both and I like the tandom axle allot better overall.

The purpose of the double axle is to take some of the weight of larger boats off of the tounge of the trailer. I think that Stratos of yours is about 18'6'' if I recall. The weight of that boat will be fine on a single axle traler. The doubles are great for the 21-22 footers that weigh a ton.

lets not forget a tandem axle trailer wont turn as tight as a single axle. i would imagine the tires wear out faster backing alot.

on level ground i have no problem pushing my trailer around and it's tandem.i feel safer with 2 axles...if there's a problem,you can always remove a wheel and chain the spring up.
i'll take tandem over single axle any day.
even though putting new brakes(complete from backing plate out),new axle,springs,bushings,hardware and bearings killed a $1000 bill,i'll stick with them.
