Spinnerbait Blades.
When would you want to use a spinnerbait that has the painted blades instead of the gold or nickel plated ones? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Re: Spinnerbait Blades.
When the sun gets too high in the morning, too much flash can turn the fish off, thats when you should choose painted blades. I dont fish them very often cuz i usually choose a crankbait or a slower presentation. Also if you fish for smallmouth, they seem to prefer painted blades over the gold and nickel plated blades.

In superclear water, particularly for small mouth. This is because the bass are gonna pick up the lure easy enough in clear water so if you have too much flash, it may scare them away.

Re: Spinnerbait Blades.
When I fish a spinnerbait (SWL), I always attach either a red or white small colorado blade on the front. This helpes make the bait stand out a little. You lose flash though, but there are times that this little change makes a big differece. When I am smallmouth fishing I find it better to use painted blades. Also, under cloudy/dark sky in clear water I do best with tandum white painted blades. In stained or murky water I will use a chartreuse colorado blade or blades.
At night with no moonlight, I like to use black blades. The best thing to do for yourself is experiment and find what works best for you. Hope this helps ya out. |
