Default A good fight.

Dang!

Caught a Chain Pickerel a few days ago,
and that thing fought farder than my 5lb bass did!!
The pickerel was about a pound or a pound and a half in weight...

...fast runs and good stamina of that fish was really something... Â*
couldnt believe a bass that size couldnt outfight that fish. a strange event... ;D

My wife and I have caught a lot of good sized pickerel this year at Ni River Reservoir. The longest was about 25 inches, and 4 /12 lbs. I caught one that was a bit shorter, but a much deeper, wider, and heavier fish. We estimated that is was about 5 lbs or so. They're more fun than a bass in a lot of ways. And they'll bite when the bass are "off" a lot of times.

yeah,

I've always believed that pickerel are not as picky about the circumstances as bass are. Pickerel is a relative to the pike, and pike will hit the same lure right after getting off the hook, and hit it, and HIT IT AGAIN...

...these are the more stubborn and agressive fish, that will eat a baitfish swimming by, under most situations and weather patterns.

...

The day I have a chain pickerel outfight a black bass is the day I will probably never see.

I used to fish frequently in pickerel waters, and these days, only occasionally. But I've thought for a long time that they outfight largemouth bass.

Yesterday I had a good fight. It hit near the boat, came completely out of the water, then kept repeatedly sounding, putting quite a bend in the rod. A surprise smallmouth, a real bonus.

Except when I got it to the surface, it was the largest gizzard shad I've seen, 15", and it was hooked in the dorsal fin. But that fight was sure fun while it lasted. It was released to fight another day.

Lone Archer,

Chain Pickerel is associated with Pike and Barracooda species... these are agressive, hard-fighting fish.
You never know what to expect from them.

Besides, that 5lb'er was caught on a heavy saltwater combo... maybe I was mistaking, or he was just lazy ;D
