Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
While they do make changing lures faster, I don't trust them. Years ago I watched my favorite crankbait go sailing off into the lake when one came open. Since then the only tie lures on. I have more confidence in my palomar knot than I do in a snap or swivel. It really is a matter of personal preference, but I prefer to tie the lures to my line. The only time I use a swivel is on a Carolina rig or a floating worm rig.

i'm working on some thoughts and pratical use for those floating worms why do you use a swivel ??? doesn't it make them sink faster don't know what to do on the duolocks>>I'm on the fence probable go with-out |

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
2can, I am not Rebbasser, but I can answer the question for him. When most people fish a floating worm you rig it with a kink in it so it swims irractic in a twisting motion. The swivel prevents your line from being all twisted up. P N J

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
Yep, that's the reason. Â*When it has a kink in it it looks alive in the water, but it will twist the snot out of your line without the swivel. Believe it or not I've had the best success with a pink trick worm with watermelon/red flake coming in second.

I use the Norman Speedclips on my crankbaits but thats the only time I don't tie direct- other than C-rigs.

Only on Cranks (easy changeover) and Blade baits (a must!) Direct line tie on every thing else.

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
Once in a tournament I almost lost a 3+ lb bass at the boat. Fortunately, I landed the fish only to find out that my snap had opened.
Palamar knots only, and directly to the bait. It doesn't matter which bait. |

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya thinh
I use them occasionally. Only when I'm expecting to have to go through some cranks or spinners to find what is working. There are advantages and disadvantages about them. If you use the on any R bend baits(spinners/buzzbaits) put a small piece of tubing over the R bend before attaching. It will keep the clip/swivel from sliding. I will also say I only use the duoclip or the snap with the extra bend around the lock. The brass ones can come loose.

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
I sound repetitive here. Cranks and spinners use clips. Everything else is tied directly. Havent tried the duolock yet. Probably have to look into it though. I have had some fail w/ a fish on. Will the duolock prevent this? 8)

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
I've been using duolock snaps for as long as I can remember and have 100% confidence in them. There have been just a couple of problems over this period of many years, and I think the problems were more my fault than the snap's.

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
I use snaps on everything. I haven't had a problem yet. I only have about 5 fishing poles so it easiest for me to just unhook the snap and put on another bait.
Stupid question: What is a duolock? |

Not stupid. Easier to show than explain. Note the two locking mechanisms on each snap. |

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
Marty!! those are the ones I'm talking about!! I got a bunch of them when I 1st herd about them. It make sence to me! I worry more about the presentation changes than a fish coming off. I really only carey 7 poles out in the H20 and it would help me out on alot of changing around set-ups to get-em pinned down quicker. what sizes do ya like what is LB test on them does anybody know ??? |

Must have been a heck of a fight. I don't use swivels really, I don't use floating worms and I've got magnum weights to c-rig with. |

It doesn't matter which bait.[/quote] Bassman30, I've had this happen also with the snap either partially open when gettin the fish to the boat or the crank bait or surface lure taking off in the fishes mouth ( speed Clip with it ). It's been my fault (laziness) for securing the speed clip to the split ring instead of removing the split ring and making sure the norman speed clip is completely secured on the direct wire on the crank, stik bait or whatever else I would normally directly tie the knot too if tying on. The split ring with that slight opening area and the speed clip spell trouble if the split ring gives way to the thinner wire of the speed clip I agree. If it makes sense, try them for yourself because I have made many many casts at night using the Norman speed clips while other chaps are still fiddling around tying any type of knot. And the Palomar being my favorite for other rigs. If anyone were to evaluate the speed clilp, it is almost impossible for it to come off anything it's clipped to unless we have human error, not securing it properly.. Me included : We're always learning and I just learned last summer that we can tie a Palomar knot wrong so it actually cuts itself, especially with braided lines... Hmm. ;D I have to visit this board more often... Screemin' Reels! Mike |

Re: snaps/duolocks??what do ya think
hula think of it as a pop-r till you get near a struture-tree ,stump, rock pile -then kill the twitching letting it fall. caught tons of bass on a floating worm.
