Default pull knob on passenger side

I have a 1986 Procraft 1950V, the boat has a knob on the passenger side that can be pulled out or pushed in. The previous owner told me to pull the knob out and it would allow water to enter into the livewells, however the first time I put the boat in the water the livewells filled up even though the knob was still pushed in. Can anyone provide information on what the knob actually is and what it does. There is two hose at the back of the boat, he said one drew water in and the other was an exit hose.

MIKE,
Most boats will fill when you put them in the water. You ned to check if the water runs out as you go across the lake when the valve is closed, If it does, you have a faulty valve. If water does not run out, it is working as it should.

Thanks for the information. I did notice after running it the water stayed in the livewells and didn't drain. Glad to here it's working as it should.

Mike, those "push/pull" gizmos work just like a lawn mower throttle. The problem is they don't work very well. Your boat is what? Almost 20 years old? My guess is the plug is either worn out, or just plan stuck. Easy fix. Go buy a manual dran plug and put it in the livewell. It's cheap, and it works. You can pull the boat apart and fix the push/pull cable, but it's going to do the same thing again.

The only down side to a manual plug is you have to get your arm wet to pull it out. Well you should be reaching in there to pull fish out at the same time. You're already wet.
