Default Scum Frogs

Well, I knew I would need to buy one after hearing about them. I got one on saturday. I am going to a pond tommorow morn that is all surface scum. Should be prime spot for the frog. Anyways, What is a good way to fish the frog. I would think of just crwaling it along top, or poppin it. I am very new to froggin, so any advice is appreciated.

I like a steady retrieve over the scum.

with all other lure retrieves, just depends what the fish wants. sometimes a slow steady retrieve, sometimes just a pop every couple seconds. sometimes constant pops as opposed to a steady retrieval, stop and go, eratic as possible, the list goes on.

I walk-the-dog with mine. That usually gets some strikes, but the ammount of slack left on the line also adds to missed hook setting.

I used it this morning. Had 4 blow up on it, and felt the weight of 2, but the hooksets are hard on these lures! I missed all 4 of them. O well, Thats bassin. Also had 2 miss my popper, and screwed up on a tiki hook set.

If the bass made a hole in the scum, cast a tiki in there right away dont even bother reeling your frog back in.

My standard retrieve with a frog is a swimming bobbing retrieve with a pause every few seconds. Missed strikes aren't uncommon with a rat. To increase hook-ups give it a few seconds before setting the hook. When a fish just comes up and slaps at it or misses it just let it sit there and twitch it a little. This almost always results in an immediate second strike.

Yeah your'e probaly right, it only had the legs. As I've said before cutting the legs off and then taking a lighter to the holes will solve this problem. Definatly cuts down on missed strikes and they will hit it just as good.

The retrieve, all depends. I prefer a stop and go method. Try to imitate a frog hopping and stopping. Yeah hooksets can be a pain, I miss more than I catch because of it. I usually keep a worm or lizard hooked up, If I get a hit and miss or miss a hookset, the frog stops and the soft plastic is flying. Only problem is when the frog gets hit again while youre throwing the plastic.
