Default fishing J. Percy Preist Lake in Sept.

Anyone fished J. Percy Priest Lake . I asked this same Q
last year before I left. I got to fish it for one day,I did
alright for never being there before I got a 3lb. small
mouth and three other bass in the 1 to 2 pound range.
this year I vactioning down there and taking my boat again for a week. Just wanting some more info on the fishing.....Im basically trying to do more homework
before I go.I need to invest in some deep diving cranks
and a 6-3-1 gear ratio reel. What would be good Sept
deep crank colors? thanks Denny

I'm pretty sure there is a guide who posts every now and then on the reports board that is from central tinursee. Probably should send him a pm.

I fish Priest lake almost every day. I have good results with chart./white spinners and bright cranks.

I just started fishing and fishing this lake 2 months ago, so I am probably not the best person to get advice from.

Where are you staying when in Nashville? From my front door to our slip is 5 miles, that's why I am on the lake as much as I am.

I haven't fished in Sept. yet, so I don't know what will work for you then.

Most of the sites that give info on the local fishing in this area cover Old Hickory Lake better than Priest Lake. I hear bass fishing is better at OHL, but it's hell on boats because of all the structure in the shallow parts.
The next time I pull my boat out of the lake, I may try OHL. I also plan on hitting the banks there soon.

Tom,
Thanks for the info, Denny will like hearing this!
My aunt and uncle lived on the lake for years but aren't fishermen, so I had been trying to go to other forums and ask about percy priest.
I believe dennys concern centers around the rock ledges along the banks and what to throw.
I used to fish Dale Hollow all during the 80's and told him the same rock ledges are there and perhaps try the craw type baits, I am sure the locals have their own lure that is favored..
So Tom, what area do you like and have you fished the rock ledges as mentioned?
thanks for any advise,
JB 8)

I live within 1 mile of the lake, we have a boat slip at Nashville Shores. Usually, I fish everyday and have been trying different areas.
I like some of the shallow coves with structure the best so far. I do well with spinners and have had good strikes on plastics, but for the life of me cannot get a hook set!!!

I fished the rocky cliff areas after dark twice, and used a craw style crank bait and caught 2 decent size bass.

I am new to bass fishing, now addicted and the baitmonkey is draining my account. I have tried almost every lure and bait, except for live bait, and may try to hook up with a more advanced fisherman for some tips.

I would like to do some local tournaments, so I may try to go with someone who needs a partner locally... any takers?

Maybe when you get to Nashville, give me a yell and maybe we can share some tips and etc.

Anything else you need, just let me know.

Almost everyday, I have my own business, so I can leave practically whenever I want, unless a tech is on vacation or out sick.
I have the craw lure you mentioned, in 2 sizes, I tried the largest one yesterday... feels like your reeling in a fish when you crank it hard! I actually thought I had one!

I almost bought a spook last week at BPS, yes we have one here within 5 miles, but I bought a black hula popper w/skirt instead. I tried it when it got dark, got a strike after it hit the water, and then nothing!

I talked to a guide from this area and he said Priest is tuff if it hasn't rained in a while. The water is really clear, warm and the boaters are running everywhere.
Night fishing would be best.

Tom,
So you do have that craw in a deep diver version?
I guess I will have to go see if I can get at Gander Mt. or
bps. I ve been to the Bass Pro Shop there in Nashville it
was really nice , We have one here an Hour away in
Cincinnati. Tom if you think of any killer sites for the lake
and or info please pass it on to me. I feel very confident about my trip there coming up,I just want to be more
educated on the lake, bass habits ect. Oh!!! before I forget have you fished back in Suggs Creek? It looks killer It looks like it has somekinda Island in the middle of the creek channel,I think it would be on the eastern side of the lake at the lower end of the lake. That's great that you have your own bis. to fish everyday...yeah I think I can SUFFER though that : .Chart/white spinnerbaits I have heard are great colors,Jb has even mentioned that before. If you have somethings you cant get the hang of , shoot Jb your question. He has alot of yrs as a fisherman under his belt.He has made me Alot more confident in my fishing abilitys ;D Well take and as always goodluck!!!
get out there and unlock the secrets to the lake..slugger Good day Denny
